My daughter is a student teacher in Cheshire. On Tuesday and Wednesday it took her over 3 hours to get to her school, her train was cancelled on both days, she takes 2 buses and a train plus a half hour walk every day to get there. The days her train was cancelled she took a taxi plus the buses. I'm disgusted at the OP's post.

I work with many Snowflakes, none of them are teachers. I think the OP needs to pipe down.

Anybody in East Lancs. knows that we've escaped the worst of the snow, but today is the 2nd day this week that about half of sons teachers have been off "Due to snow".
Amazing how the vast majority of proper workers managed to get to work.
If I lived somewhere rural and in a job where people depended on me I’d probably drive something like a Panda 4x4, and keep some snow chains, a shovel and some salt in the boot.

The OP was probably bullied at school and his parents most likely forced him to walk the 32 miles to school in all weathers.
Why else would he loath anyone that Teaches including the ones that teach his Son? ;)

I had to return to this thread to reply to this.

Nobody would ever try to bully me, if you knew me you would know that.

And yes I did walk to school in all weathers, all 800 yards of it.

ahhh so perhaps you were the bully then :) had to be a reason you dislike teachers so much. they were probably on you're case a lot.
Im glad you also cleared the 800 yards up, it explains why you were at school in all weathers and despise those that got a day off who lived further away.

No, yet again another wrong assumption. Just a normal everyday pupil that applied himself. Certainly not a bully, but certainly not a wimp.

You seem to enjoy trying to find an ulterior motive for my OP, feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss.

So why do you dislike teachers so much?
Your post was clearly aimed at them. You are assuming all teachers are the same (an assumption)

OK, it may be the younger newer teachers, when I was at school I didn't have a problem with them, they were good at teaching and discipline. Now, when son shows me his homework if he needs help, it regularly contains mistakes by the teachers, If it's handed in late it doesn't seem to matter, was same when D was there, sure did when I was there.

When I've been to parents evenings, I would say that a fair few of the teachers I've spoken to aren't that committed, you can tell with their demeanour & attitude to pupils advancement.

Also another thing has been organising of school trips over the last few years, generally unrealistic. See my other thread in the "Arms".

PS. Why does your avatar look like me?

re the avatar its a very good likeness of me lol.

A lot of of parents these days blame the teachers for their kids education, behaviour and pretty much any thing else they lack in as a parent.
When you go to a parents evening you are showing the same disrespect to them that a lot of other parents probably do. Is it any wonder they seem not interested.
You have said you trained apprentices in the past, if they or their parents had the same level of respect for you im sure you would of felt similar to a teacher in a school.

I did read the thread about your sons school trip and the fact you felt it was overpriced and short notice even though you could afford to pay for it and didnt want to see your son miss out as mates were going etc.
If you felt that strongly and wanted to make a point you could have just said NO and explained your reason to your son as to why he was unable to go.

Where did I say that I don't show respect to them when I meet them? I arrive at my conclusion by just asking them how they can get a pupil to reach his peak, the reply is generally that they teach a class to suit the less able pupils, spending more time with them, and stopping the more able pupils from advancing. may be swomething to do with how they set the streams, IDK.

Re the trip, as I stated in that thread, he does deserve it due to his general behaviour and being in general non-demanding.

Off to have my tea now & watch Dragons Den.
