As everybody's said, don't change the keeper, it's pointless. just renew it using the reference on the renewal reminder.

You would imagine that a form on their website that allows you as a new keeper to tax the car with the new keeper slip would actually allow that to happen, but no...

My underlying concern with doing that was that my wife said she was the registered keeper upon renewal there on 15/1/19 there, as we were planning on doing this at month end.

However given the above fiasco whereby a simple form doesnt work on that site, i rang the insurance company and got the amendment made so that her insurance company knows shes the owner but not the registered keeper. It came up as requiring an admin fee to do so - which was another reason for not doing it that way - but the guy spoke to his manager and got it waived.

SO, did that, went online and taxed the car with me as the registered keeper.

    All good now. :)

Is there not an issue though with the insurance not being in the keepers name, relative to getting it taxed?

I'm out of the loop on the nuances of these things...

Many insurers will insure in this way without issue. I had it that way with my Merc when I had it.

Pleased to hear that. Adding another new keeper could have also impacted the resale price.

Thanks everyone for their input. The only reasons i had for changing it were - completeness, wifes car, wife should be the keeper now and possible admin fees with insurance.

Insurance co didnt charge so no issue, and we've advised them that my wife is the owner but not the registered keeper.

All good now - and as has been pointed out, it keeps the number of keepers down on the V5C.

Thanks everyone for their help :)
