Change of keeper - to my wife. Process?
OK, so my car is being transferred in to my wifes name as shes the primary driver now and the insurance is in her name.
Its already insured in her name.
The road tax expires tonight at midnight 31st Jan and thus the plan is for her to tax it online tomorrow 1st Feb in her name using the reference on new keeper slip, and tomorrow i send off the V5C with the new keeper details.
That way i dont lose a months tax and / or she doesnt pay a month extra.
Now, is there any risk that the DVLA will say i owned the car on the 1st Feb so should have been taxed, OR do i say ownership transferred 31st Jan?
I know i'm over thinking it but just dont want to give them any excuse to stick me with a fine.

Exactly the same as any other keeper change. Yep, that'd work just fine - or do the keeper change online tomorrow.
You could tax it using the V5C/2 today, and get expiry end Jan 2020.
Do her insurer really have an issue with her being policyholder/main driver on a car where spouse is keeper? Unusual...0 -

Thanks Adrian
I dont think so but i assumed it had to be insured in the keepers name?0 -
I would NOT do this, as it will add another keeper to the car's history and achieve nothing.
Also, because the DVLA are slow, you would have to SORN it, (to avoid Feb tax), wait for them to acknowledge that (about 5 days) THEN tax it in her name.
There is no issue of her insuring it while you are the keeper.
I have exactly this with the car my wife drives, no issue, just when insured and they ask if she ws the registered keeper, answer no.0 -

Is there not an issue though with the insurance not being in the keepers name, relative to getting it taxed?
I'm out of the loop on the nuances of these things...0 -

DVLA cope quite happily with a day or three's leeway at the best of times, they certainly don't have an issue with a keeper change.0 -

Looking at it as a "normal" transaction - if i sold the car to some bloke tonight at his house, he'd log on tomorrow morning and tax it online and i'd post off the V5C tomorrow morning first post?
I'm effectively replicating that.0 -

You could notify the DVLA of the new owner changeover via the website? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
