Total rant and not sure where else to put

I moved 3 weeks ago and loved my previous house but had to downsize and be near family again after living away for a few years ( not relevant but thought I'd add)

I had a small small holding , 3 acres , barns , wildlife etc . An ex neighbour contacted me today and the new owner has taken down a 200 year old monkey puzzle tree in the front garden
No TPO (not sure why I didn't ask the council to slap one on)

I am incensed beyond belief, I always felt when lucky enough to have a house with land we are but custodians of fauna on that land and to take care and preserve

CF from a very big city is going to rip out all the trees to make another entrance onto an A road , no planning no nothing

I got very upset when I heard , how could anyone do such a thing?

Rant over but jeez there are some horrid people around

New owners so they can do what they want (legally), blunt but true.

    That's really sad to hear.

I guess I get it, if a big tree was in the way of your plans, but it's a shame they couldn't just buy a house without one.

I'm the proud parent of a baby giant sequoia I grew from a seed and I'd love to plant the little feller out but even if I wasn't concerned about complaints when he starts to get big the house I'm buying is unlikely to be my forever home and I would know that the next owner or the next but one would have him out.

At least I'll be able to put him outside in a big tub once I move. He lives on my bookcase at the moment.

I hear ya. Not nice but you sold the property. My old house had a lovely big rose cherry blossom tree in the frotn garden. The new owners removed it.

Revel in the fact that such an old monkety puzzle tree could have been sold for a fortune if removed carefully. They probably did not. People are idiots.

Current neighbour removed a tree in their front garden next to mine. (just other side of fence). I think I may buy a tree and put it my side because I liked it there!

You cannot control other people and insanity will occur if you want to!
  • I totally get where you're coming from.

We inherited a lovely old garden bench (probably 100 years old) when we bought this house. We've taken it apart and lovingly restored it to its former glory - our neighbours stopped for a chat and informed us that it would be much easier to buy a new one from the garden centre. Some people have no idea!

Thanks, I know it isn't my problem but just saddens me how some people don't care about what's around them

I love monkey puzzle trees. It's a real shame the eejits just cut it down instead of selling or giving it away to someone who would have appreciated it.

Whilst I sympathise with the moral position; they are the owners and can do as they wish.

Absolutely, just can't understand how they got away with it, approx 80 foot high very close to an A road.

Maybe it was blocking light in the front of the house. Perhaps it was costing them because when they truthfully answered the insurance question about nearby trees the fact there was a close tree the insurance went up. Perhaps they were ere worried about the roots.
As a (very) non-native species it won't have been doing much for the local wildlife. So it's really just an aesthetic thing. Why should they be subject to a random placement of a tree from what someone did 200 years ago? How many trees were felled to make space for the barns, house and areas where you kept animals?

Know where you are coming from - in my case it was a friend who bought my flat - she then proceeded to completely renovate it - getting rid of "those dreadful wardrobes" etc., which I had put in! Our friendship suffered as I just couldn't get over the fact that she was criticising"my flat" - even though it was now legally hers.
