Please note. RBS needs a card reader to make payments, which has not automatically been sent out and I can't remember seeing an option during application to request one.

Having made the £1500 pay in, I can't now make the withdrawal, even to existing payee, without a reader. At that point it gave the option to request a reader. It doesn't let you use a NatWest reader either, as it knows one hasn't been issued for this account.

So folks, make sure you have your reader before making your deposit!!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

With NatWest (so same group) I was able to use a Nationwide reader the day after I'd ordered a NatWest card reader, I think you should be able to do that same.

Yes you can use a Nationwide card reader in fact that is exactly what I did the day after I switched .

unfortunately this caused my account to be blocked because they realised that I could not possibly have received my Natwest card reader and that something was not right...

    you can't win!

On further investigation the RBS site states this....

"If you are a Digital Banking customer (Personal, Premier or Business), and have not yet enabled your card-reader or you need to re-enable your card-reader, you can do this online in a few simple steps.
Please note: In order to enable a card-reader, you must have ordered one online - you will be told the option isn't available to you if you try to enable a card-reader before ordering one."

So it looks like using another reader is a no-go, until such time as the one I've ordered arrives and is enabled.

Thanks for the tip as I will need to withdraw cash once I've made the transfer. I've received debit card but no account number yet. I can't log on to online banking without it but presume it will follow. Once I get this I will transfer the £1500 but will apply for the reader first.

I had some problem getting my passport details through on their system so just scanned it as a document and emailed it and that seemed to work. For some reason NatWest never got back to me about an account with them so I applied for this for the switch incentive and am switching a HSBC account having paid off the overdraft.
  • Does £3000 that I have in my Nationwide account that I am switching from from count as my £1500,or will I then after the switch has completed have to deposit £1500?
  • I have just switched, giving it a go for the £150,may not get it though as got the Natwest switch payment before, worth a shot, I think, more chance of getting it than winning Tuesdays Euro Jackpot

    It's been ok so far

They aren't due to pay the incentive until about 10th May, so you've got a bit of a wait to see if you've been successful. A successful switch doesn't mean the incentive will get paid.
