Moneybox Radio 4 Parking Podcast

Just been listening to Moneybox on Radio 4. This week was about parking issues. The vast majority of complaints were about private parking companies. The IPC surprisingly declined to comment.

An interesting guest list too.

I should have put interesting in quotation marks their really. It certainly was interesting who they invited but it's probably best I didn't comment further suffice to say I would have picked a slightly different guest list.

If I had known in advance who the guests were could have called up and asked some very hard to answer questions

That reminds me i really must get my visiting order to see my jail bird friend in HMP Manchester

I thought Caroline Sheppard was extremely good. She came across as frustrated and appalled by the antics of the private sector and was not going to let council enforcement be tarred with the same brush.

The other two “experts”, though, were awful IMO. Kelvin (recipient of the BPA’s Lifetime Achievement Award) answered all the questions by spouting the usual BPA mantra about how they are protecting us all from carmageddon; while JW having chucked in one or two points of dubious law kept telling us how good POPLA is - even when given examples of some outrageous decisions. It’s a pity Caroline Sheppard’s point that all her adjudicators are experienced lawyers (as opposed to POPLA’s rumoured nail technicians and resting actors) got lost in the mire.

After listening to that I’m not surprised the TrustPilot reviews are so bad. If the private sector had been represented instead by, say, the Prankster or other regulars on here who really know their onions it would have been an interesting programme as the presenter was asking good questions.

You do realise the "Prankster" is involved in that "business"?

I thought the line about placing a ticket on a windscreen could be criminal damage was, frankly, ridiculous. I'm surprised it wasn't challenged.
