And then Brexit!!...it's just a big unknown, the financial crisis of 2009/10 nobody could have predicted the all encompassing disaster that proved to be so for me, I am so fearful of that having lived through it..almost PTSD"

The biggest all encompassing disaster about 2009 is that the government and BoE did absolutely everything possible to pump the property bubble back up... a bubble that was only achieved in the first place through huge levels of fraudulent and irresponsible lending and borrowing.

Is VERY odd having our house equity sat in the bank.

For me (FTB) it'll be very odd having only a few thousand sat in the bank. I've been saving for this for over two decades, almost literally my entire life - certain relatives gifted me a certain amount when I was very small, which was sat there earning interest even before I had any income to add to it.

I'm ready for this, but it is slightly disconcerting to think than in a month or two I'll suddenly go from a net worth of seventy-odd thousand (technically less twenty-thousand student loan but that doesn't really count) to being in debt by roughly the same amount (technically plus twenty-thousand...)

It does make looking at your bank statement nice though :) We did the same but for different reasons to you, we rented for the 9 month gap from putting our old house on the market to moving in to the new one.

We are due to list ours in the first week of March.

Originally we planned to list in January but we had to push it back until March. We are 100% committed to moving this year so not much we can do about Brexit other then keep our fingers crossed.

Yep, and this irresponsible level of unwillingness to let economic reality prevail almost certainly led to the Leave vote (among other things of course)
  • I'm a FTB in London. Just had an offer accepted on a one bed flat. Buying on my own and it's nerve-wracking. Some of my friends are waiting until after Brexit to buy, but thought I'd go ahead and try to find the right home for me. Hoping to complete by end of March.

We are in the same boat, we are looking the first week of March. The problem is knowing what to believe in the news. We are looking for a family home and plan to stay for a long time so not worried about prices of property, but the key is getting the equity out of mine. Which I guess is the predicament everyone has.

I thought I would start a thread on anyone who is selling or buying a property during Brexit (as in March onwards). Just to note the trials and tribulations (if any, I am being optimistic as desperately need to move). I am putting my flat on the market end of Feb, just redecorating it and smartening it up now, anyone else doing the same?

Why do you say "as in March onwards" ? Hasn't Brexit been a factor for 3 or so years already? And will be one for another 10 probably? And most unlikely it (whatever "it" is), will happen in March either. This is going to be a very long running thread.

I'm hoping to exchange today (selling).
The 4 people in our chain appear to be just getting on with their lives.
One is an FTB, one is moving to a family home, one is downsizing from a family home to a retirement flat and we are selling.
All appears to be based on home/circs and not trying to time the market.

Another hoping to exchange today (Buying) A few hiccups with right of way shown incorrectly on plans, and insurance company quoting to insure the wrong house - the one we're living in.

When it's all over I'll be back regarding selling our present place.
I am not a cat (But my friend is)
