We stick a fan heater on the armrest and turn it on from inside the house 15 minutes before we leave for work.

Clear windows and a warm cabin.

Cover it up before you go to bed.

I use a big old bath towel.....just clamps in both doors nicely and windscreen wipers hold it in place or and old shower curtain

I use Prestone de-icer spray. It works great.

For 36 years, I've used a kettle of boiling water. Not had a cracked screen yet.

I do the same - though usually I switch it off before it boils. My uncle told me about that shortly after I passed my test, and it was one of the best pieces of advice he ever gave me.

I get a funny pained reaction from other people in the street still scraping theirs as I drive off.

Watering can filled up with "hot" water from the tap. I used to use a kettle but the watering can is quicker.

My friend said the exact same, until last winter she got a massive crack in the windscreen and had to buy a new one! I think it depends on the car, age of car etc, but it does happen

Nobody else has mentioned it but if your screen is clean inside it gets a lot less mist. best thing for cleaning it properly is paper towels or newspaper, cloths always leave a little residue.

I just couldn't bring myself to pour hot water on a cold screen, the thermal shock would crack mine even if everybody else got away with it.

My car takes ages to warm up, always has from new. No heated front screen so if I use water it re freezes when I drive off.

Halfords do a "night before deicer". It won't stop the windows frosting over, but the ice will be thinner and will be much easier to scrape or quicker to defrost. If you don't get a frost it will leave a little sticky residue on the windows

Old fashioned rubber hot water bottle put on the dashboard for 20 mins clears the windscreen, but not the side windows. I prefer the less MSE fan heater option though as it clears all windows inside and out
