    Hello.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted on here but just a warning. I went to purchase an iPhone yesterday from CPW (Carphone Warehouse), I was told I couldn't buy the phone without purchasing the insurance for a minimum of 3 months. The insurance is basically 90 quid, 30 a month!

I'm sure this is illegal but a warning to all those going to buy an iPhone from CPW. As far as I'm aware the AppleStore and O2 stores don't force you to buy insurance.

It can't be true. Maybe they or you must have misinterpreted it wrong but definately that is not their policy. My mate went to CPW to buy iphone, they only asked him if he would like insurance and thats it. Its not mandatory.

Maybe the sales guy had given up on the Hard-sell approach.

Mr Dunstone should check that his staff are not putting his customers off, due to his high sales targets.

Hi Guys Im new here... I've been with Carphone Warehouse for like a year now and I've had nothing but issues. Previously the worst was they took 2 months to fix the claim i made on my XDA Orbit cracked screen. Now their latest con is this:

I took a contract out yesterday afternoon at around 1pm. Within 2minutes I had a phone call from "PHONE PROTECT", offering to save me money on my insurance! I've had about 25 calls in the last 24 hours and I've spoken to Carphone 3 times and they are giving me a load of s**t about how it's not their fault. Everytime this company phone, I say to them don't call me again and they say thats fine and two mins later they call again.

Anyone got any idea what I can do? They are seriously p*ssin me off now.

    Cheers in advance,

    Nirave

P.S. Sorry for the language. I wouldn't be this annoyed but they never told me I didn't have a 14 day policy so I'm screwed with my PDA unless I keep the insurance for 10 months and then break it using that. What would you guys do? its £32.50 for 3 months.!.!.!

    Cheers!

Lol, thanks for that!! It worked in the end... had to phone them up on 02088965000 and put through to customer loyalty etc. and went psycho on them and guess what!! I thought it would be too good to be true, but they sent me a £30 cheque (received it yday after like 5 months or so) as a gesture of good will for all the privacy policies and data protections things i said that they had breached lol.
  • A few years ago when I lost my Blackberry, I went into a store, blocked the old phone and walked out with a replacement handset. Oh how times have changed!

I lost my phone recently and Carphone Warehouse's new system (sometimes called Geek Squad and sometimes Lifeline) is atrocious. I went into a store and (after nearly 2 hours) finally managed to get my phone blocked and a temporary basic handset but they have said it will be at least a week before a replacement iPhone will be available IF THEY ACCEPT THE CLAIM! Even though I am insured for theft and accidental loss, the whole process is painfully slow. When I rang up, I was given an email that didn't work and then eventually got through to someone who said that they would look at it within 5 working days, the write to me, then a phone may be available 5 working days after that.

If I had known how bad the service was I would never have bought it from Carphone warehouse and I cannot believe how bad their customer service is or how little they seem to care. I have been to the store twice, sent a number of emails and called a dozen times (constantly being referred onto other departments) and I doubt I will get a replacement within a fortnight! I just hope that people don't make the same mistake I did!
  • I'm unsure where previous posters got the figure of £30/month for CPW insurance - it is actually £40 per QUARTER and this top level insurance means that should you wish to cancel your contract and return your iPhone after 9 months, i.e. half way through the contract, you can do this. However, a) you lose your phone and mobile number and b) you have to pay Carphone Warehouse £29.99 to take the phone back (and it must have all the cables, box etc.. and be in very good condition)! This all seems somewhat extortionate to me, though I have to confess that I have the insurance! I'm now in two minds as to whether to give the phone back! I like the phone but still find it rather restrictive - though watch this space for the newer iPhone and firmware! The CPW do not now offer the airtime protection policy for iPhones but did when I bought the phone last year and they assure me that the policy still stands - i.e., I can still return the phone and cancel the contract - we will see this Saturday (16th May 2009) when I try to return it (if I decide to go ahead with it that is!). :rotfl::T
