iPhone and Carphone Warehouse Insurance Scam

Hello.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted on here but just a warning. I went to purchase an iPhone yesterday from CPW (Carphone Warehouse), I was told I couldn't buy the phone without purchasing the insurance for a minimum of 3 months. The insurance is basically 90 quid, 30 a month!

I'm sure this is illegal but a warning to all those going to buy an iPhone from CPW. As far as I'm aware the AppleStore and O2 stores don't force you to buy insurance.

  • 02 charge £7.50 a month for their insurance witha £25 excess.

I would buy from 02 shops rather than CPW as 02 give 14 days return wheras CPW give 7 days with stringent T's and C's

    Can I return the iPhone?

We'll be happy to give you a refund for the iPhone if:
    • If you return your iPhone with all contents (accessories, manuals, etc) and packaging undamaged with a valid till receipt or other proof of purchase to a Carphone Warehouse store within 7 working days from the date you received your iPhone*. A refund will only be provided if you have not used the iPhone. Use of the iPhone signifies acceptance of your iPhone. Use would include, but would not be limited to connecting to the O2 network or using any of the functions of the iPhone (e.g. amending settings, saving any data (including music), adding a contact or appointment, taking a photograph or using an application). If you use your iPhone before or after notifying us of your wish to cancel, you will be responsible for all charges incurred under your O2 airtime contract and these may not be refunded.
I enquired in a CPW last week as to what would happen if you didnt pass the 02 credit check. I was told that I would then have an Iphone that cannot make calls.
  • The CPW returns policy is being looked at at the moment..(with a view to being changed)

  • Did they not know that they were getting the IPhone in advance and have a proper policy in place?
  • I don't know?? lol all I know is we had notification they are looking into it to change it,..

I agree, the CPW insurance is a total ripoff. Do you know which agency I should report them to for misselling?

    Anyone buying one deserves it.

Simply cancel the direct debit(If it is a DD) you have a cooling off period.

I bet you it worked out £90 for 18 months and the first 3 months were free working out at £5.99 per month for 15 months. Probably another case of a forum member misunderstanding the offer, and then making public accusations of a scam.

Maybe companies should start looking at this forum and its many slanderous
    (1. Law Oral communication of false statements injurious to a person's reputation. 2. A false and malicious statement or report about someone.)comments and issuing legal proceedings.

    It works both way's.
