I didn't shout.
Really, I didn't.
I simply highlighted i.e bolded one word in my post.
I think you will find that 'shouting' on t'internet is using all capitals.
Which I didn't.
So now, I do think all is well.
OK?0 -
Yes I’ve had herpes in my eye for months, there is nothing sexual about having shingles I can tell you!Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0

Wow, this is scary to find out. Nothing like this was told to me at during sex education or growing up. I remember in high school there was a girl who would get flare ups and when people teased her about having herpes, I thought they were just being mean (and probably most of them were).
So, is this a conversation that happens for people who date?0 -

You don't have to worry unless you have a partner with genital herpes
My husband has the cold sore virus and we have been together 30 years and I have yet to get a cold sore and neither of us have ever had genital herpes
My cat has it in his eyes. He can pass it to other cats but not to us0 -
Re the question about childbirth. I was always told there is only a risk of passing it on to a child if you have an active attack at the time of child birth. And there are things they can do to protect the child even then.
But definitely, getting confused between the different types of Herpes Virus. Having herpes simplex is not going to put any child at risk at the time of childbirth.0 -
This does mean that they have Herpes. Herpes is incurable. There are two types of Herpes that people refer to as "Herpes", HSV1 and HSV2; although there are more within the Herpes virus family.
HV1 primarily affects people orally and HSV2 genitally, although either can affect either site. About 20% of genital cases are HSV1 and very rarely are oral cases caused by HSV2.
Genital HSV1 is on the rise and is now a leading cause of genital disease in Asia. This is due to increased cleanliness in societies, meaning less oral transmission and due to increased popularity in oral sex. Genital HSV1 is mostly caused by transmission from oral infection to genital via oral sex. It's much harder to transmit from genital to genital or genital, unlike HSV2.
70% of the population below age 50 are estimated to have HSV1 and around 1 in 6 have HSV2. The reason so many people have it and don't know is because the majority don't get symptoms as the virus lies dormant. Many contract HSV1 as children and get an initial outbreak and either nothing more or symptoms too mild to notice. HSV2 is considered "proper" herpes because it causes outbreaks far more often.
There is a lot of confusion and misinformation regarding Herpes. Herpes does NOT cause genital warts. That's HPV, a different virus. And Herpes is an epidemic. As there is no cure, it's not life threatening in 99.99% of cases and symptoms are often mild, it was removed from standard blood std testing in the UK so not to ruin peoples lives.
The majority of medical proffessionals consider it nothing more than a mild skin irritation / condition. It's only recently that HSV1 has been linked with Alzheimers.0 -

Worth noting:It is worth bearing in mind that there is no strong evidence that herpes virus infection actually causes Alzheimer's disease. The increased presence of the virus in the brain may be related to changes to the immune system due to Alzheimer's disease.0 -
I don't see a post by that user name PollyCat
This thread is interesting though but there is some misinformation on here
70% of people really do have Herpes. You may never know - have no symptoms etc
There are two types, Herpes which causes face sores (HS1), and Genital Herpes (HS2) which can cause sores down there
If you find out you have the genital type, it really is not a game changer, but partners do need to be told
They are viruses, there is no getting rid - can go dormant for years, other than building up immune systems so an attack doesn't occur as frequently - but it can be managed. Just look after yourself as best you can. The first attack is usually the worst
It is something to be wary of, but not panic. HS2 virus can lead to meningitis and HS1 can lead to encephalitis;- rare complications, but worthwhile knowing about
Herpes do not cause genital warts that is HPV - one of the same strains of virus that cause cervical cancer - a completely different virus, which is what we are tested for at Smear Tests
If anyone is reading this and is concerned, then look it up on the internet via the NHS sites - as there is a some misinformation on this thread xThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
Anybody worried about having the Herpes Simplex virus, Google Bell's Palsy (and worry some more).
My brother had a bells palsy nearly 4 years ago, he said he had had a sore ear and throat all day, but while we were round at my dad's for his birthday, my brother started complaining of a sore eye and blurred vision. Dad's not big on lighting so I turned on the main light and got my brother to stand under it. The whole of one side of his face was droopy, the reason for the discomfort and blurred Vision was he could not blink fully and his eye was drying out. As my brother has a full beard the face droop was not apparent unless you looked really closely. Dad panicked about a stroke, whilst I calmly used his home phone to call 111. We got him seen by the out of hours Dr who diagnosed shingles in his ear and throat that had spread to his facial nerve.
The dormant chicken pox virus had manifested itself as shingles due to stress, we had lost my mum a few months before and my brother had been made redundant shortly after, but was getting to grips with a job in a new field.
We were advised that treatment had to start asap, as the virus had been reactivated for at least 24 hours and after 48 hours the nerve damage could be permenat, we were driving around looking for a supermarket pharmacy that was still open at 10pm!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0
