UK motorists planning to drive to other European countries will need to get a 'green card' in the event of a no-deal Brexit, insurers have warned - and you'll need to apply for one at least a month ahead...

I think that'll be another "because Brexit" excuse. They're still very active in the UK for other insurance types but have also stopped offering Care Home Insurance. Seems like they're just restructuring what they do and who they do it for. Car insurance is cut throat - i never found they were even in the top 10 on the comparison sites for me.0 -

Seems reasonable. And its free anyway. "essentially international insurance certificates that prove your policy provides minimum cover – are free, but you'll need to contact your insurer at least a month beforehand to get one."0 -

Predictable response from project hate.
Never bother to read facts and dismiss anything they don't like to hear as "project fear". Project Hate have had enough of experts, they know better than the people who work in the industry.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

It's not actually certain you will need a green card yet. The EU have the legislation in place for U.K. citizens to not need a green card but are yet to enact the legislation.
We will know more as the date arrives. If it's looking like you need one then just get one. It's free so not exactly a big deal.0 -
We used to have them before we joined the EU. If it becomes necessary, as others have said, get one from your insurer in good time before you go.0

Anyone know if we required a 'green card' to visit Ireland before 1973?
Makes a bit of a nonsense of it being a 'common travel area' doesn't it?0 -

Its pitched as a "warning" though and like its a big issue and problem and headlined in a Clickbait way. It should be an informational message IF we have a no deal Brexit. No reason to alarm / worry people.0 -
I had been wondering about this (and a hundred other implications) and find it useful to be forwarned about such possibilities especially as a hard Brexit is a possibility and in the near future too. Nobody knows. But this is now on my radar as I may be affected so thanks for the post.
Getting some information which may be useful and a good heads up for people and the first response is anger/denial/head in the sand I just don't understand. Why? It just seems foolish to me.
Surely a responsible adult approach is always to be best informed and understand implications regardless of the topic (regular knowledgable posters on Motoring are always advocating this). At this moment in time, we have especial need to be as informed as possible to make wise decisions, motoring abroad is one of them.0
