Arson attack claim

  • That's what I was wondering. How can it be a fault claim? I have CCTV evidence of the attack, insurers haven't asked for it though. I expect they have spoken to police however.

    Because your insurers are paying.

That's all "fault" means - can they get somebody else to cover the bill, or are they dipping their hand in their pocket?

They don't really care about the precise detail of what happened. They care about whether having your business has made them money or cost them money.
  • Will it? Surely if the money is reclaimed it'll be no fault.
I really don't understand the ins and outs of it all. I'm just fretting over something that is beyond my control. I have been advised not to accept insurers first offer, people saying they will always low ball you at first. I really do not want to have to pull any money out at all, I lost my job the week before Christmas so what little I have needs to go a long way as it were. I am looking for work though.

You can get insurance to cover yourself committing arson? Who knew!

How is OP's insurance company going to recover their outlay?

No, I asked if they recover the money then would it still be an at fault claim?
  • 1. Individual on a relatively young PCP deal loses job.
    2. Said individual's PCP'ed car is set fire to, for a total loss
    3. Individual does not want to re-finance.

    Context, dear boy - context.

The answer to your question is YES in the context of the OP's (stated) situation, as the insurer is almost certainly unable to recover their costs.

I concede that the wording in my post #2 was sub-optimal.

    Or in other words wrong.
  • You know what I came here for advice.

To see if anyone might be kind enough to offer some wisdom to me. I am a 40 something year old lady who has been unfortunate enough to experience the worst time of my life over the last few weeks. This happened to me. On my drive at home in the middle of the night less than 1 foot away from my wooden back door. I will not go into detail as to why this happened but it did. Things could have ended up so much worse if it wasn't for the fire brigade. Some scroaty little b***ard has poured petrol all over my f***ing car and torched it. We know who it is, the police know who it is. I am living in fear that he might do it again and it might just be my house the next time.

I did not come here for ridicule.

Thanks for any advice that has been given already.
I now know where not to come in my hour of need next time.

DoaM and CardinalWolsey are bang out of order in suggesting you committed arson and insurance fraud yourself. Don't let the minority put you off the majority.

Where did I suggest that? I merely highlighted the points that the OP made over a number of posts. If you've drawn that conclusion, then that's rather telling in itself; and if you've added up those points and come to an incorrect assumption, the OP should be careful that their insurer doesn't either, or at least be prepared to answer additional questions regarding their claim - insurers will try and avoid a payout where possible.

Actual ADVICE to the OP - if it does come about that your insurers question the validity of your claim, be prepared to stand your ground and require that they either pay the claim or take you to court. If they do neither, complain to the ombudsman.
