Arson attack claim

Hi I'm after some advice please.
Car was set fire to on our drive and I don't know what to expect in regards to a settlement as nobody has been arrested in relation to it, so my way of thinking is that insurers will have no one to claim back from. Police don't seem that bothered tbh. The details are:
2015 Volkswagen Polo Se Tdi Bluemotion Technology, 1422CC Diesel, 3DR, Manual 39850 miles on.
Purchase price £9000 less £700 deposit on PCP
VW settlement figure is £6853.00 and my excess is £800.
I have searched and searched and can't seem to find the same spec car lots of 5 doors but not 3 doors.
Sorry if this is all over the place I really don't know if I'm coming, going, been or gone. Sitting up all night watching CCTV in case happens again, so not sleeping at all.
Any advice would be great

This will be a fault claim regardless, so whether or not the insurance company can reclaim from a 3rd party is irrelevant to your claim.

No, I didn't take Gap insurance (hindsight is a wonderful thing)
Like I say I'm all over the place so sorry for confusion.

I reckon you'll be looking at getting £7k-£7500 less you excess from your insurers so perhaps you'll only have to pay a few hundred to settle the finance.

Sticking the same options in gives me 14 cars. From £6k so your offer may start around that. Minus your excess..

So I've done another national check and found 6 cars similar spec ranging from £8000 to £9000 the average gives me £8457. Would they offer an average price to buy or the current market value? I'm so confused and just trying to prepare myself for the worst...

They certainly don't offer an average , I would expect them to offer you a value based on private sales less a bit.

All you can do is wait, research then argue.


If you can get one for £8K why would they offer you £8500, I would expect them to start at £7K in that scenario.
