Should these MP's call by elections and be re-elected as Independents?
Do you have any actual experience of the Labour Party? Do you know any Labour Party members, have you ever been to a meeting, a fundraiser, anything at all?
It's just that this view tends to be rather strongly espoused by people who don't vote Labour, don't support Labour, don't know anything about the Labour Party and fear the return of a Labour government like a kebab shop on the Whitechapel Road fears the council health inspectors.
While Momentum may seem like a terrifying fifth column of communism to anxious retired Tory voters in Surrey, it's really nothing like you think in practice.
From my personal perspective, I'm not crying my eyes out that Chuka Umunna, one of those right wing, pro-austerity, career Labour MPs who appears to have got lost on his way to Conservative HQ and joined the Labour Party instead, is leaving. I suspect if he does re-run as an independent his chances of being re-elected by Streatham range somewhere between slim and none.
In fact, considering Umunna's stated views on immigrants and immigration, you could perhaps call him a bit of a hypocrite for claiming that he's leaving over Brexit. But that's Blairism for you.0 -

I think it varies by CLP, but I went to my local party meeting a few times in recent years, and it was pretty much exactly what a lot of people think a Momentum run party is, one of the many reasons I binned my membership, and why I could NEVER again vote for Labour under the current leadership, unless I had a very independent minded Labour candidate running (I did last time, but its a Momentum-bot this time)0 -

Never let facts get in the way of a good bashing.
https://metro.co.uk/2019/02/18/3500-jobs-risk-honda-plans-close-swindon-car-plant-8660316/Swindon North MP Justin Tomlinson said Honda’s decision to consolidate European market production in Japan was not as a result of Brexit.
He tweeted: ‘Honda: @RobertBuckland & I have already spoken to the Business Secretary & Honda. They are clear this is based on global trends and not Brexit as all European market production will consolidate in Japan in 2021.0 -

Let's guess where the production is going to. I'd suggest Japan.
Has a trade deal now. Can focus on production at home. Exporting to order.0 -

According to Sky, Honda was likely to relocate the facility to its home market of Japan.

So, they are not moving factory to EU but to Japan!
But remainers have to blame everything on Brexit.
The real reason is that now EU having tariff free import from Japan, they don't have any reason to manufacture cars anywhere in EU. They can simply build in Japan and get shipped to EU without any penalty.
So, if you really have to blame anyone, ask EU why they did such pact with Japan in the first place.
Would they have done so if a car was made in Germany? Just asking.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
I see. A Brexiteer MP says that the decision is not due to Brexit, so of course it must be true, because, you know, clearly
1) He took the decision, so of course he knows
2) It’s not like he has a vested interest in minimising any negative impact of Brexit, noooo….
The factory is moving to Japan, not to the EU. The key question is: would they have moved it had it not been for Brexit? Unless you are one of the executives or board members who actually made the decision, you cannot know for sure.
Also, companies rarely disclose their real motivations very clearly; have you ever heard a company say: “yes, we moved production to X because we can pay workers a pittance?”. On something as divisive as Brexit, many companies would probably want to use very vague, and non-inflammatory language.
The timing is certainly odd, though!
Just like with Dyson: he says the decision to move the HQ to Singapore has nothing to do with Brexit, but only he knows how true or not that is.
One thing I’ll say is that actions speak louder than words: whatever the reason, we have Dyson and Honda moving away from the UK. These are the undeniable facts.0 -

Well, surely you know that Japanese manufacturers happen to have plants in other EU countries, not just in the UK. AFAIK those plants are not being closed. If they were, your argument might hold some water.0 -
Let's keep it simple for the forum brexiteers
- They are moving to Japan.
- Japan/EU trade deal.
- No tariffs on car exports Japan --> EU
- Shortly tariffs on car exports UK --> EU
- Making cars in UK to export to EU post Brexit, not so profitable
- Making cars in Japan to export to EU, more profitable
- Close UK plantDon't blame me, I voted Remain.0 -

Where are these other EU based car plants based?
