Exactly those who are already better off will be harmed less. I've still not seen anyone give a coherent explanation as to how brexit will improve the lives of the disadvantaged.

Applying a transit tax on Irish trucks crossing the UK might also help to concentrate their minds.

Sure, it'll help them speed up bypassing us entirely which will be great for our roads and environments.

We'd need to be careful that anything we do won't hurt us worse if reciprocated.

Then maybe Ireland should stop demanding that the backstop stay. They should help rather than trying desperately to force us to remain. That, after all, is what the backstop is for.

Ireland needs the backstop to stop us reneging on any promises. We don't really have must trust or respect at the moment.

The backstop will never pass Parliament so it’s pointless even discussing it.

But when it comes to trust, the UK has little reason to trust the EU who would never release us from the backstop to ensure that we were handcuffed to them indefinitely.

No deal it is then. We should have got this over with 3 years ago.

Only if you believe the backstop is a trap. I've no doubt the EU will 'release' us from the backstop as soon as it stops being necessary - that point being when we either have the border, an alternative border system or a customs union.

If the UK doesn't want the backstop - then satisfy the criteria to ensure it's never needed. Remember we suggested it.

Don't be so naive, the backstop is purely and simply a means for the EU to try and wield a big stick over the UK when we all know that the reality is that they can not and it has nothing to do with being pro-EU or pro-Brexit as anybody with any reasonable grasp of the Good Friday Agreement should know only too well.

At least we've gone from remainers threatening us with war if we voted to leave to now threatening us with killing in Ireland and TBH one fevered conjecture is no less ridiculous than the other.

Indeed, it is only a blind cannot see that, the EU keep making the Irish border as an issue because they want to keep UK as a cash cow and subservient of the EU under ECJ. Also they are very afraid the UK will triumph in the future. When this things happen that will be the end of the EU.

The backstop would've only come into play if the UK had failed to meet promises to come up with solutions to the Irish border. I don't believe the EU want us lot handcuffed to them indefinitely and the backstop doesn't seem to be a perfect solution for the EU either so it's not the asymmetric solution portrayed.

The backstop was just a handy excuse for the right (who want no-deal anyway) and those who sensed an opportunity to be leader. If it wasn't the backstop it would've been something else.

Corbyn was never going to support the deal either because he thought a general election might be in the air.

Since the referendum we've disposed of two PMs, two brexit secretaries and managed to fit in a general election too. The EU must look on with bemusement; I know I do.

Ursula Von der Leyen, the controversial Defence Minister of the Bundeswehr, got the approval of the EU Parliament to become President of the EU Commission by just nine votes. She was the only candidate, selected by the EU Council
    Is this actually true?

The economic benefits of Brexit are subjective opinions. For every change there are winners and losers. If Labour comes to power there would be winners/losers. Does it mean if Labour wins election we must re-run the election?

Brexit needs to happen because majority of people wanted it. That's the crux of it.

The doom-&-gloom Brexit articles are designed to creation sensations only. That article Independent claims household income fell by 0.5%. That does not indicate anything bad really.

Brexit hasn't happened yet. So that fall can be attributed to being in EU.
House price has fallen more than 0.5%. So, people could have more disposable income because of this.
The unemployment rate is lowest in history.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Yes, it is. She was the only candidate and 48% of MEPs voted for her. Perhaps there should be a confirmatory vote.
