Economic importance of HK to China may be decreasing due to a flight of capital, IP and talent to places like Singapore. In the end China may have inherited a large consignment of real estate.

All I see from our political class on the Remain side is some blithe assumption that remaining in an Union will ensure everything will be just fine into the future.

I just don't see why this should be true. The EU was unable to stop the movement of mass manufacture of electronics; consumer goods; clothing to the Far East. Automobiles and aircraft production could easily follow.

I don't think anyone said we'd be fine, but better positioned in Europe. The EU has good trade deals with a lot of Asia, is directly between us and Asia (that train between Europe and China, for example), and has a lot more clout on the international scene than us.

I also don't think I've seen anyone explain why we're better prepared on the outside or what we want to do with Asia that the EU won't allow us? Unless you're talking about a race to the bottom in terms of wages, workers and environmental rights.

People can live off less money if there is a sustainable plan.

I don't see a current plan which is sustainable, with 3m+ people being added to the populace every decade without a proven plan for housing and resourcing for these people.

There are more ways in which a "race to the bottom" can occur.

What happens to environmental rights when London has 2m more polluting humans living there?

Just seen on the news, a positive for Brexit.
'Simply scaremongering, It will do the country good to go without for a while' :)
'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher

I dont think that addresses any of the points though. We can control migration but that doesn't mean we can control population growth. Environmental regulations can still improve as the population increases. I'm sure London is over to walk around in now than in 1719, 1819 or 1919.

There are other ways a race to the bottom could occur, sure, but does Brexit help with any of them?

You can hear for yourself exactly what the boss of Airbus says on their site. It is on the rotating front screen.
    https://www.airbus.com

While you are there why not read more about them.

They are not about to move but with Britain out of the EU the long term investment is likely to not be in the U.K.
Once again not financially neutral but a long term negative for Britain.

Hopefully someone will find a long term benefit of Brexit. It still eludes me.

You know how much Airbus received in illegal subsidies from the EU?

    Twenty two billion euros

When I say the EU, I mean taxpayers in member countries of the EU so hazarding a guess, I would think that 2-3bn has come from the UK.
The thing is that without the taxpayer helping them out, this business would have gone down the pan years ago. And now we have the CEO of this company threatening to move his business out of the UK when what he probably wants is for the UK taxpayer to stump up more cash to persuade him to stay and our government is probably stupid enough to fall for it.

Airbus, like Boeing will ultimately have the Chinese to contend with. Is a main objective of the Chinese to have it's own globally competitive airspace industry and not be reliant on foreign imports.

They can but we live in a country where about half the adult population do not want to live within their means, they expect to live on debt.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

How does Brexit help. It does not unless you are suggesting that desperation caused by Brexit will wake up this or any future Government.

Almost like suggesting that a new start after an apocalypse is a good thing.

Perhaps Brexiters have finally realised that this is the only way to squeeze a benefit out of Brexit.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

Thrugelmir, No one is arguing about that. Your knowledge of trade in Asia definitely post dates mine.
However Asia may be a threat but as the old business books say
“A threat is an opportunity “
Brexit is not the first step we should be taking when facing the opportunity in Asia.

Remember Britain is already behind many of our competitors the modern opportunity in Asia has presented.
The disaster that is Brexit will not help.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.
