All financial institutions are required to verify the identity of applicants and Cynergy, like pretty much all the others, will attempt to do this electronically, using data held by third parties such as credit ratings agencies.
If they've tried this but haven't succeeded, then chances are that others would also encounter the same difficulties if you applied elsewhere, although they may react differently and, for example, ask you to turn up in branch with documentation (if you apply to one with a high street presence), or they may have less stringent certification requirements.
Perhaps worth reviewing your credit files with the three CRAs to see if all is as it should be?0 -
just opened new bank account never
had a problem opening that!0 -
I've just opened a savings account with Cynergy.
I filled out the form online during the early hours on Monday, deposited my £1.00 twenty minutes later, received my "User ID" by email later that same day, and on Wednesday I received my "Passcode" by 1st Class Post. All done in three days!
Last year, ICICI Bank took nearly two weeks to set up a savings account for me, I gave up and opened one with Tesco Bank instead.0 -
I've opened a few of the MSE-listed easy access accounts and the information and documents vary very widely, from Marcus who provide you with you account number at the end of the process (but don't do joint accounts, so not perfect) and then Charter Bank, Post Office, Sainsbury's who are also very easy. The questions they ask are quite different across the banks with some wanting employment status and employer and then some who want copies of passports (sometimes certified, sometimes not). And of course they don't accept prints of online bank statements - but then want us to go paperless. And spare a (brief) thought for Bank & Clients - you have to download their form and fill it in with "BLOCK CAPITALS with a black ballpoint pen" - I bet that was result of an internal debate on whether to change from insisting that use a quill............
So, it might not be you - it might be them.0 -
If they cannot ID you electronically then yes this is the norm.
I have appropriately certified copies of my passport on file ready to send out.
Always have at least one other paper document showing my address from a financial group available.
I get the requests less now that I have so many accounts open with different groups but at one time every single account of any type opened had to have my paper ID sent off.
They requires the certifying person to be some form of registered person/authority so should the serious fraud office come calling they can get out the papers and go a visit the person doing the certifying as they are traceable.
I had one account made dormant a few years ago after non use and they required full paper ID to be supplied to re-activate it.
You want a ticket or to renew one with the Public Record Office/National archives - you turn up in person with your passport and address ID and stand in a queue of others doing the same all with their passports and address ID such as bank statements.
I scrapped a car to an official disposal site and had to supply ID then to them.
You wait until you are the executor of a deceased. I lost count of the number of times I supplied my passport etc as ID. Death Registrar, funeral director, solicitor, house RICS qualified valuer.......0 -
One month into trying to open a bank account with Cynergy Bank. Posted them certified copies of everything weeks ago.
Despite telephone them every several days (with very long waiting times), still being messed around.
My brother had the same experience with Cynergy, so it's not just a 'one off'. Their account opening process are archaic. Wish I'd never applied.0 -
I opened an account online with Cynergy and it was really easy. It was immediately opened and I was given my user ID and was able to transfer the money. BUT the passcode hasn't arrived in the post. I've been trying to phone Cynergy for the last 2 days, and no one answers. I just get a recorded message, then a ring tone, then music, then another ring tone, then more music. Also the live chat is not working. So I've just emailed them to see if anyone replies.............0

Most accounts can be opened with electronic verification, but this sounds normal for instances where this is unable to be done - asking for certified proof of identity and proof of address is a pretty standard KYC check. Pop down to your local post office and get them certified then drop them in the post and away you go.0
