Female haircut at Barbers!

A male friend of mine wanted a haircut - from a barber - today. I went into a hairdresser to ask where there was a barber and to enquire for myself the price of a dry trim. They didn't do one but told me wash and trim was £30. Went to the barber's with male friend and found that they do ladies' hair too and I could get a cut for £8.50. So I did! And she styled it. So.... all women should go to the barber's first!

Were you happy with it?
Worth thinking about as my last cut cost £42.......not moneysaving I know, but aged 40 and would pay anything!0 -
Good tip Fran.
A female friend of mine gets her hair cut and blow dried for £5.50 at a ladies hair salon..........but with a tip she pays £7.00.
If you like paying for fancy salon decor and fussy staff in a 'well to do' area.........fair enough, pay their prices.
If you go to a salon in a less 'well to do' area (like a council estate for example), the decor will be basic but the staff are still qualified.
Just don't upset the staff and other customers by bragging about your posh house/cars/holidays in the caribbean etc.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the 'I wanna' and 'In my home' and Health & Beauty'' boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Yes, very happy with it, completely restyled rather than the usual trim. I don't have my hair done very often as the prices usually put me off, sometimes I end up cutting bits off myself
::). I'm not sure that all barbers would do it but it's worth a try! The annoying bit was that men's hair cut was £6 and women's £8.50 - I did try to get it reduced but without success! As she restyled it (I think it was a husband and wife team) I was happy with it, but would resent a quick trim for £2.50 more!Torgwen.....................

I cut bits off my hair too Fran ;D
I go to a barbers rather than a fancy-pants salon, my local one is better than the last salon I went to. The staff looked great with trendy clothes, shiny hair, all made up but couldn't understand the words 'my hair is very thick, please cut some layers in' ::)Bulletproof0 -
Ladies - Please may I offer a reasonable rendition of the pudding bowl look for a quid?
Seriously - I have been cutting my own hair since I was 15. Used to look like a right pillock - probably do nowadays ......0 -
Got out of the "salon" rat race several years ago. Changed to being a barber. I have built up sufficient clientelle that I no longer have to do men's hair, children's hair and )gasp!) little girls brought in by their mothers.
I only do cuts and styles, but do long, medium and short cuts.
And I do know what layering thick hair means.
Best to all!

But I do think I now generally get a better cut because I know what to ask for to get 'my' "page boy bob". It's a combination of talking it through with the friend who used to do it at home, and accepting that this is what my hair wants to do:
Take it straight round from the hairline at the back: do not cut it shorter at the front. No, I don't want it shorter at the front than at the back. Because it doesn't suit me like that. And because I can't stick it behind my ears if you cut it too short. Now, let the parting fall where it wants to: do not attempt to move it. There's no point moving it: it will be back where it is now tomorrow. OK, that bit which should be a fringe, and which is in fact standing up at the front rather than pointing down over my forehead. Please cut that VERY SHORT INDEED. SHORTER. No, really, SHORTER! You've got to be brave! No, not over your fingers, over a comb!! No, honestly, YOU CANNOT CUT THAT BIT TOO SHORT!!!
I've been a hairdresser's nightmare for years!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
