Hi to all.. today I took my CeFa1 exam for the first time after a good few months of revising. I had been getting 95% + on the CD-ROM AND the 2007 specimen papers.... however today, only just scraped a pass on unit 1, and in fact failed unit 2!!
I had to check with the place that I had been given the right exam, as a lot of the stuff seemed almost irrelevant...not to mention things I had never heard of!! Is this normal?
I studied first with 'the green folder', followed by the revision notes and my own notes, then the specimen papers and the CDROM... is there something better I can do to ensure I am more than ready to pass unit 2 on a re-sit?
I am slightly embarrassed by the whole situation as it seems I've been revising the wrong stuff for the last few months, I have a degree, a-levels, grade 8 guitar and grade 6 piano under my belt so it's not just a case of lack of memory or lack of being able to study!
Any tips would be much appreciated as I can't re-book until I know what I need to be learning to cover off the unit.26 years old, engaged, 2 kids :cool:0 -
Well, the good news is that you only need to resit the unit you failed. However, I fully agree that the Competence Development Tool is pretty useless at preparing you for the exams, largely because they only have about 300 questions for each paper, which then do not cover anywhere near the full syllabus.Hi to all.. today I took my CeFa1 exam for the first time after a good few months of revising. I'm actually quite tempted to complain about it, because it doesn't develop your competence sufficiently, and when you look at the price tag you expect to get more than what you actually do!I am a Chartered Financial Planner

As it's a Sunday and I'm impatient... does anybody know the cost involved in a re-sit for just unit 2 of CeFa1? I'm sure I remember reading £30 ish somewhere, but via the website it will only allow me to re-register at a cost of £105!! I understood that this £105 is if you 'lapse' i.e. don't take it before the end of registration period.
I will call ifs tomorrow and post the cost if anybody is unsure, but if somebody knows... please let me know!26 years old, engaged, 2 kids :cool:0 -
If its like the CII exam, then each module is individually costed and you need to buy that exam again.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Hey dunstoh,
I'm taking the Cefa module2 not the cf2, is there much difference in the two??0 -
I'm pretty sure the cost was £100 to re-sit but it has probably risen to £105 which is absurd!!0

Absolutely agree with this. I suspect that the costs are so high because most people will be funded through these exams by companies with more than enough money for this not to be an issue at all. For those of us who have had to buy the material and exam entries ourselves, it's a very expensive outgoing!I'm pretty sure the cost was £100 to re-sit but it has probably risen to £105 which is absurd!!I am a Chartered Financial Planner

I concur! However, I'm slightly lucky in that I managed to persuade my work to pay for initial registration.... but with the condition that I would pay for any re-sits. Oh well, £105 not down the drain as should pay for itself shortly, but until then, on the interest free credit card for now methinks!
Anybody got any tips for me moving forward? I'd like to get unit 2 sorted, but don't want to rush and have to fork out again. Am I best going back to 'the green folder' and starting from scratch on unit 2,, so that I don't miss a sentence?26 years old, engaged, 2 kids :cool:0 -
I just passed CeFA 3 today. Just the application exam to go, something I'm not sure how to feel about. It's certainly going to have its challenges, but the fact that I have all the background case studies in advance should help a lot!I am a Chartered Financial Planner
