O/S Daily Wednesday 9th January 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning :hello:

I've been going through my spreadsheets and have decided I can do better. So I'm aiming to spend a bit less on groceries and grow a bit more food. I also want to get the electricity bill down, it's crept up lately. Although we could all make better use of the amount of time the oven is on (for example), I'm the one who's home most of the day so I think the main culprit is me :D

I emptied the ingredients cupboard, gave it a good clean and made a list of things that are running low. I added those things to my online shop, I was stocked up again by lunchtime yesterday. I'm trying to run down the tins/packets cupboard, that'll take a while but it's slowly emptying.

I have some work to do, I could get it all done today but have decided to spread it out over the next couple of days. My new rule is No Rushing :D

    Good morning everyone :hello:
I had a much better night's sleep last night , only getting up once for a couple of hours. My chest feels a lot better too and I can walk up and downstairs without nearly passing out now.

Steve has just made me a cup of tea before he leaves for work. The kids are all still asleep and Bobby is making weird groaning noises whilst he scratches his ear. It should be a fairly quiet day, no visitors planned but I do have a phone appointment for the respiritory clinic to check my cpap machine. I have never had an appointment over the phone before, the hospital are just being very accomodating because of my agrophobia.

I have taken out a pack of pork chops for dinner tonight and will chop them up and make something tasty with them. I am veering towards a pork, beans and chorizo bake with salad potatoes. I will have to see what we have in the fridge.

Taff, I hope you feel a lot better soon, flu sounds awful especially on top of your other health difficulties. Sending you a big hug xx

beentheredonethat I share your problem with being frugal. I am always looking to see what bargains are around in the early hours and buy stuff that I just don't need. Hope your face cream was very nice.

Today I will start to tackle the yarn mountain in my bedroom. I have bags and bags of different wools so I want to put them all back in the storage boxes and make a lot more room. It is also extremely dusty in our bedroom too so it would be great to actually be able to hoover round. If I manage to sort out two bags worth I will be happy as I need to pace myself.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

I forgot to congratulate bellabella yesterday, lovely news.

No plans today but I do need to do some personal shopping - it is so cold though, don't really want to go out.

BTDT I bought face cream too but was frugal and got it from Home B*rains.

Although I woke at 5.30 I had a really good sleep, feel so much better now. I think getting back into a routine at work has helped.

It's cold here, I've put the heating on for half an hour. It was still light when I left work yesterday at 4.15, it had been a lovely day and the sunset was glorious.

Congratulations to your DD bella, lovely news.
Glad you're feeling a bit better dumpling, good luck with the tidying.

Dentist was OK yesterday, don't need to have anything done and didn't have to pay for the check up, I was even taken early so a good visit all round.

Hugs to those in need, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

btdt - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit.

Still pitch black, rain spots on the windows, but don't think it's raining at the moment, so damp underfoot too, but not quite a frost.

Dinner last night was chicken in country french sauce, mash, green beans, broc, peas and an extra portion of mixed veg for DS2 and myself. Tonight will be egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns, mushrooms and beans - need to get these bits cleared up out of the fridge.

Yesterday work wasn't as busy, but busy enough at times, and we still had several customers in at 4pm when we should close, was a few minutes late finishing but not too bad. We'll see what today brings. This week has flown by due to being so busy, I'm on days' off from tomorrow but have to go in for training tomorrow morning and I'm not working this Saturday morning either so will feel more like a break.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks BTDT for the start. I had another clockwatching night and admired the starry starry sky a few times for want of something else to do. It's a very frosty start.

This cold weather does nothing for my aging old bones and I can barely bend over to put on my slippers when I first get up. I need warm sun.

I may (or may not) resume the decluttering this morning. Next on my imaginary list are all the toys and games under the stairs. They never see the light of day so I doubt they will miss them.

The DGDs are here for late tea and sleepover (no panto today, that's tomorrow) Today after school it's a new drama class the ballet principal is starting. Of course they wanted to go. I wish had all their energy. Eldest will probably be here straight from school.

Sausage, mash, veg and lots of gravy planned for tea. Yet more different sausage to try! I thought last week's were lovely but DB is still on the lookout for the perfect sausage! These were quite expensive so I hope they live up to the price!

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely who need them. Oh TAFF you have enough on your plate without flu as well. Take care all xx

Thoughts especially with Holly, Poppy and taff and everyone finding life difficult.

Yesterday was very cold but lovely and sunny, so it was good to get out and have a coffee.
Today we are going to visit mother and then out for lunch. We have a meeting at the care home next week to talk about end of life care. DH will be with me so should be 'interesting' never sure what he is going to say.

    Take care all

    Morning everyone.

Yesterday wasn't very cold though I can feel it creeping in now. I was very productive too including finally finishing the dreaded marking which I'd been putting off for two weeks. Once I started it was fairly easy so I've no idea why I keep doing this!

Just before I started another elderly neighbour called round with a box of shortbread for me. She stayed to chat for over an hour.

I've decluttered 10 mugs from the kitchen, they'll go to the college staff room, and a bag of read / unwanted books will go to two colleagues. They'll read and pass on the books.

This morning I'm teaching first thing and then interviewing one person who couldn't make the sessions next week.

I really enjoyed the baked liver and onions from the other day, think I'll dig out some from the freezer to make later. For now I must kick myself out of my cosy bed to start my day.

    Happy Wednesday to all.

Brrrr seems a lot colder here today so have turned the heating up for a while.

DW has been put on this morning I meant to put it on last night before bed but forgot and it would have kept me awake so left it till this morning.

The people didn't come for the td yesterday so I messaged them and they said sorry and that they will come today, if they don't we will get it back in the back garden and take to the tip I cant have it hanging around out the front it looks really scruffy

Not sure about dinner tonight there is some mash and cauli cheese to eat up in the fridge so it will be something with that.

Bella what lovely news :T congratulations for your dd and young man xx

Taff hope you feel better soon xx

Right better get on have good days all xx
