  • You'll probably find that payments have been duplicated. My husband had his duplicated & my dad 3-4 times on some accounts, this appears because we had provided account details as requested by them last year.

Just managed to get both accounts corrected again. We asked for a BBSI and my husbands arrived yesterday and they still show accounts that we had provided closure dates for last year.

Yes, I think we have had similar experiences before.

I've sent a detailed list showing exactly what has been credited to every account and highlighted all those which have been closed. I don't have the time/inclination for a prolonged battle at the moment - but I will not give up.

Our most recent posts stand in stark contrast and I'm really sorry to hear that your ex-employers are now your tormentors.  I don't know for how long I will be permitted to tell HMRC to keep their hands off my affairs - but, while one can, I can recommend such an approach.

    I despair.

In January 2020 I finally had a satisfactory conclusion to my formal complaint regarding HMRC's repeated errors calculating my liability for earlier years. I received the correct repayment and all (incorrect) adjustments were removed from my code as interest going forwards is less than £1k pa.

Last week I received an amended coding notice including adjustment of £1946! The only explanation I can imagine is that all the closed accounts, dealt with during my complaint, have been reactivated with estimated figures.

In the middle of selling and moving house, I really could do without this.

It may be an issue with information relating to closed accounts but it could also be that your tax code has been adjusted as there are unused Personal Allowances which mean that the savings nil rate of tax (or savings starter rate) isn't relevant to you.

But if your non savings non dividend income such as taxable earnings and pension is more than £12,500 then that is unlikely.

Thanks for trying ;) but with gross pension income approaching £30k, that's definitely not the reason.

This month's HMRC pension, credited today, is almost £70 lower than usual, due to their incorrect coding. Extremely annoying, but as I said, my main focus is elsewhere at the moment.

    Definitely not then!
  • What is the best way to contact HMRC to get a list of the interest details from my savings accounts they have received. I don't have inclusive calls apart from weekend ends so it would cost a fortune to phone them Monday to Friday. What are my alternatives.

Are the phones are manned at weekends as the only number I have found is see is a Monday to Friday number.

Phone lines are now closed weekends, used to be the best time, so either webchat or good old pen and ink. https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/contact/income-tax-enquiries-for-individuals-pensioners-and-employees

I thought I had phoned them at a weekend a few years ago. Nice to know my memory hasn't totally gone.

I have just found an HMRC page showing my tax summaries for 18/19 and 19/20 showing the bank interest included in these year's annual calculations. I cannot recall how I got here but I saved the page which will load when I am logged into my HMRC personal tax account.

Click on the required year, then on income and taxes and then on your taxable income. It categorises it as other income (including interest) but in my case it is just interest.

The amount for 19/20 is the same as the figure used for 20/21. Sadly, both are grossly overstated but still marginally below my £1,000 threshold for paying tax thereon.
