Scared I’ve bought a clocked car :(

Hi all,

Is anyone able to help please?

2013 MOT showed - 58733 miles
2014 mot showed - 97821 miles
2015 mot showed - 63554 miles

They claim the 2014 is in KM but the mot says it’s in miles. If coverted to miles it would come out in between the 2 and match up fine, but I’m still concerned.

I don’t understand how the MOT station could convert it to KM then Input it as miles? It makes no sense?

This was bought from a used car dealer so I believe I can take the car back worst case.

When I bought it they done a HPI checked which showed no discrepancy on the NMR which is confusing too? Which is why I bought it. Then checked the MOt history after.

It had full service history too, but I fear this may have been lost in the post despite being sent signed for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They often read the mileage from the ecu. Your car probably records kilometres rather than miles. The tester just entered the number he saw in the miles box.

Could of been an error with the MOT station - too late to correct it now. Can you convert your cars mileage into KM's and back again with a flick of a switch?

What is ALL the mot history mileage and dates?

Why and where did you send the service history in the post?

The 2014 figure fits with the others if you assume it's in kilometers and convert it to miles.

I'd be more concerned with the very low mileage and how the car's been driven, treated and serviced. Has it done hundreds of trips to the local shops over two years?

Oh really? I thought there would be other discrepancies as a result and thought they would declare it in KM not miles

Not as far as I’m aware!

Basically it was serviced before I bought it but forgot to stamp it. So, he said he’d get it stamped and send to me recorded post. I can see it was sent on Wednesday but no further update so very worried now.

It does, but why would they convert it to KM and then put it into miles when declaring it?

Who knows, but it was regularly serviced every year.

There was someone with this issue a week or so ago here, the same thing Km looked to have been input instead of miles. I think someone mentioned that the cars computer when read by software would show the 'mileage' in Km by default (as I see someone posted above.)

Thanks for the link! Why would an MOT tested connect the ECU?

Nosiness. Perhaps he just wanted to see what fault codes had been stored. If there was something then when you picked it up he could suck his teeth, shake his head and tell you it's not a fail but it really needs.....

Which would add up to about £800.
