Mileage discrepancy

Hi all
just want some feedback with regards to where I stand,

I purchased my car in October 2016 from a reputable car supermarket.
The car had 103k miles on it at the time and I purchased it for £7000.

I took finance through a company and have had the car for 26 months now.
I have 10 payments left before car is mine.

Today I wanted to go car shopping and thought I would go and have a look at a few cars and see what price I would get for mine.
I visited a garage and they began to put a valuation onto my car

after doing so the guy came back to me and said sorry we cannot have your car as it has a mileage discrepancy.
I am not aware of this

I asked to see there hpi report that he produced.

In August 2015 it went for mot and had 76k on it.
It then went to the manufacturer for whatever reason in Jan 2016 and the car had 126k on it,
it then went back to the manufacturer for work in May 2016 and it had 95k
then it had a mot in August 2016 at 100k before it was sold to me in October 2016.

Am I legally entitled to fight this ?

as though it has been 2 years I never knew of this and if I had I wouldn’t have purchased the vehicle.
I am now stuck as no one will buy my vehicle with mileage discrepancy on even though the garage who sold it to me did not declare anything to me.

I have all invoices at time of sale and it has the mileage what was on car at time of sale.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Everything tallies up on vosa but the discrepancy is flagging up on the hpi report. It has had 30k miles shaved off along the way.

Yes, thats a mileage discrepency but could very well be simply that it was recorded wrongly when it was in the dealers for work in Jan 2016.

Might be worth contacting the dealer in question and asking for the mileage confirmation @ Jan 16 OR getting the ECU of the car analysed to see if it was clocked.

I have contacted the dealer who had it in for work but they have no record of the car going to them at 126k. The car was a ex fleet car. They mentioned maybe the vehicle went to another main dealer at the point it was at 126k.

Is it easy to change the odometer from miles to km? Is it a European manufactured car where everything is recorded in km, especially through main dealer software?

Reason being is that 126,000 km is 78,750 miles. Call the manufacturer and make more enquiries.

No stamp or invoice in the service book to say work was carried out in January 16.

The vehicle is showing miles on the odometer, I have it checked out to see if there is a option to see it displayed in km but there isn’t. My worry is where has that figure come from as you are right I have converted from km to miles too.

You should be able to ring VW UK and find out where / what was done in Jan 2016.

Your local VW dealer or one of the many specialists with ECU reading equipment should be able to tell you if all the internal counters for miles tally up. It will be held in various places in various ECUs, not just the one that shows the dash display.

It could well be stored internally in KM and the dealer who did the work read that number off the internal ECUs rather than the dash reading.

How about any other dealer stamps before or after? Do they have the mileage recorded and how does that equate with the MOT figures?
