It might be worth taking it into a dealer or marque specialist who may be able to interrogate the ECU and see what the real mileage is. On some makes (eg. BMW) the mileage is also stored on the keys.

Dealers may also be able to help with the service mileages, if they are held centrally.

Basically it was serviced before I bought it but forgot to stamp it. So, he said he’d get it stamped and send to me recorded post. I can see it was sent on Wednesday but no further update so very worried now.

If the mileage is incorrect, you wont see that service information. Looks like you have been conned to me.

    2013 MOT showed - 58733 miles

    2015 mot showed - 63554 miles

Less than 5,000 miles in two years, rather suspect.

It does, but why would they convert it to KM and then put it into miles when declaring it?
If it's a digital odometer, perhaps it was accidentally switched over, and the tester simply didn't think about that. He just copied the number down.

I really wouldn't worry too much about it.

The alternative scenario is that after 59,000 miles over three (or more) years, i.e maximum 20,000 p.a., this 3-y-o (at least) car was suddenly thrashed for 40,000 miles in a year. That seems less likely, but it’s anyone’s guess.

My missus has done less than 4000 per year for the last 5 years so I see 2500 py as feasible

    Hi all,

Is anyone able to help please?

    2013 MOT showed - 58733 miles
    2014 mot showed - 97821 miles
    2015 mot showed - 63554 miles

They claim the 2014 is in KM but the mot says it’s in miles. If coverted to miles it would come out in between the 2 and match up fine, but I’m still concerned.

I don’t understand how the MOT station could convert it to KM then Input it as miles? It makes no sense?

This was bought from a used car dealer so I believe I can take the car back worst case.

When I bought it they done a HPI checked which showed no discrepancy on the NMR which is confusing too? Which is why I bought it. Then checked the MOt history after.

It had full service history too, but I fear this may have been lost in the post despite being sent signed for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Alarms bells would be ringing for me regardless of the discrepancy, less than 5k miles in 2 yrs.

The type of car is very relevant, is it a diesel, is it an economy car etc
