Trivago has always been my go to hotel comparison site, but booking direct rather than through them.

I'm not 100% sure how I ended up on Kayak. I think it was a pop up or push notification after looking elsewhere. Things I normally close without reading, the same as I never click on any link on Google with "Ad" against them. Well I didn't actually click on it, but it prompted me to look at Kayak as whatever popped up piqued my interest.

I had been looking at rates for a hotel Downtown with no idea what a good rate would be. A few days later I realised the rates I'd seen were good, but couldn't remember or find where I saw them, despite trawling through my browser history, etc. I thought it was Vegas.com, but the layout of their site didn't look like what I remembered seeing.

I'll give it a shot then. You just never know where you could find a good deal so it's worth looking around.

Let us know if the rate is honoured ok, will you?

Is there something going on in Vegas w/c 16th September?

Booked back in November but noticed hotel prices have doubled since I have done so. Just the normal supply and demand or something going on in town?

There's usually a fight at the weekend and also it goes into Spanish Independence. I'm not sure of the exact date, but it's around then. We sometimes go a little later, but we're going late August this time, so hopefully won't have that issue.

Yes, I shall. I wasn't even going to mention it here until after our stay and tempt providence. I only did as there have been a few questions about hotel rates.

Just remembered another site that used to be good for hotel rates, formerly lowcostvegas then lowcostusa and now https://www.holidayusa.co.uk/ although I haven't looked at them for years.

Years ago, I booked THEhotel via Atlas Choice and received a confirmation. 11 hours later, they sent an email saying there was a technical problem with their website and I was actually booked for MB and sent a new confirmation. They asked whether I wanted to pay the additional £50 a night for THE hotel or cancel the booking. I quoted their T&Cs back to them, which stated, "a binding contract is in place once the accommodation booking voucher is received." and said they were in breach of contract. They said they would absorb the additional cost.

3 months later I found a better rate. I emailed and said I would be willing to cancel if they waived the 25% cancellation fee. They said they couldn't do that as I had 24 hours in which to cancel. "No problem. It would have saved your company from absorbing the price error. I look forward to my stay."

So you tip a flat rate rather than a percentage of the fare?

Yes, but only because the fare is usually about $8 at most. I would say my tip is about 25% and I believe that's fine. It's rarely higher, except for an airport ride. Would be different if we went further of course, and also for the airport we tip more. We don't use them a huge amount, but generally always tip regardless of whether we have anything to be lifted out of the car (we usually don't, unless airport). We only really use it to get from Platinum to Wynn or Venetian if it's afternoon and too hot to walk, or if we're trying to catch a late lunch buffet or happy hour etc.

Your tipping sounds fine to me to be honest. I wouldn't be overly concerned about it. With Lyft though, I always felt that if I didn't hand a few $$ bills they might think I'm not tipping them. That said, they probably don't mind too much, but appreciate when people do.

Hope you are enjoying your trip. :)

Thanks. Yes I am enjoying it.

We were staying at the Bellagio the past 2 nights on a MyVegas comp. Did the comp Bellgio lunch into dinner buffet and it was disgusting. Even for free it was overpriced. Contrast that with the Aria one today which was lovely.

Stuie is going to be absolutely spewing. The weather finally improved 2 days before he went home. Today has been the first 100+ since September when it was 102F and it is forecast to be 104F Tues and Wed.

We left Tuesday at 12, but when we went to change hire cars (drive back to LAX) at 10am, it was 30c then !!!
We clocked 107f when we reached Eddies World (next to Peggy Sues 50s Diner on the I-15) on Tues afternoon!

The weather is certainly odd, as i was there end of Sep last year, and it was max 34c for the 5 days we were there.
It only reach 34c on Sunday/Monday just gone since Sep (was all over the weather news).

Before i write my trip report, i took out $5200 spending money for the 11 night trip.....
    I came home with 75 cents! :D:D:D:D:D
Not quite the turn out i hoped for, but hey ho!

I did bring home a sun-tan, 8 jars of BBQ sauce and 10 bags of Xtra hot Cheeto's! :D:D:D

Looking forward to your trip report Stuie. If there's anything new or interesting you think may be useful for me, would you mind popping it on here before you get round to doing your report. We still have 9 nights to go.

Just back from seeing Barry Manilow. Excellent show for those that do shows. I was seriously cheesed off when it was 25 mins late starting, especially as we had a restaurant booked for after the show, and really was not in the mood for it by the time it started. They were filming it and the OH thinks the film crew were the problem. However... Barry Manilow could teach Celine Dion a thing or two about entertaining an audience. He spoke between songs and it was both engaging and entertaining, unlike Ms Dion who droned on for half of her show and was boring. I had paid good money to hear her SING not talk.

Dinner at Envy afterwards and it was excellent. Both the food and service were top notch.
