Tobydeals - Yodel - PayPal

I ordered a Nintendo switch for my grandson in the Black Friday sales. I was going on holiday in a few days, so I asked for it to be delivered to my daughters. I googled Tobydeals having never bought from them before & reviews were very mixed, so I paid by PayPal as I thought that gave me extra protection in the event of problems.
Anyway I went on hol & came back from holiday & I received an email on the 6th dec saying it was being delivered & a tracking number. I clicked the tracking details but when I got to the end, it said not updated, so I kept trying and on the Sunday it was updated saying it had been delivered on Thursday. I had checked with my daughter - it wasn’t.
So I contacted Tobydeals - who asked for proof of ID & a signature, I emailed them that. They replied it was too late, the delivery firm had marked it as delivered case closed.
So I got in touch with PayPal, who opened a request. Tobydeals supplies them shipping info as proof of delivery and they closed the case, I called PayPal back, they reopened, they closed again when Tobydeals again supplied shipping details.
I called PayPal who advised me that yodel were at fault & to take it up with them. That was the first time i knew that yodel were the shippers. Anyway they gave me yodels number and I called them. They opened an investigation and said they’d be in touch.
They called me admitting they didn’t have proof of delivery and said it must be lost. That I would need to contact todydeals who could refund me & claim against them.
I did - I emailed them a couple of times, but they won’t respond and they have a Hong Kong phone number.
So I went back to PayPal & told them, they said if I get proof from yodel they can refund me.
So I went back to yodel who said they now can’t talk to me, only my daughter due to data protection.
So my daughter contacted yodel (by webchar) and they advised her they cannot provide the email, I have to raise the issue with Tobydeals who must claim off them.
!!!!!!
Help :-(

Yikes. I think you're doing all you can, right now. All I can offer is good luck with it.0

Tobydeals are based in Hong Kong so there's very little you can do, other than try to persuade them to refund you and claim for the loss from Yodel. Yodel are within their rights to refuse to talk to either of you as you're not their customer.
The other option is to contact your card issuer for a chargeback but this could result in your PayPal account being closed.0 -

I’m a bit clueless, as they won’t answer my emails is there any cheap way to call Hong Kong?
I’ve asked yodel to amend their records to reflect it not being delivered and they say they can’t change it now!
It’s just a ridiculous situation.0 -
Have a read of MSE's guide to getting cheap calls, likely to be a faff though:

They won’t respond to my emails - I don’t know where to go....0 -
Have you contacted your card company to see if you can get a chargeback, as advised above? I think that's your only available route.
Why did you buy from tobydeals when there are all manner of U.K.-based reputable dealers that sell the Switch? It's not as if it's a rare or specialist product not widely available. One look at their website and it's obvious they aren't a serious retailer and its very clear they're HK-based.0 -

I was putting that off as a last resort as the poster above suggested PayPal might shut me down. That would be a real pain.
I used them because they were £20 cheaper :-/
I paid by PayPal because I read a variety of reviews not all flattering & I thought I’d have extra cover.0 -
And sadly you're now finding out why they're cheaper. A £20 saving on a nearly £300 item sent from an overseas supplier simply isn't worth the gamble, especially as you read mixed reviews.
I think you have to go with that last resort.0 -
If anyone wants an update, I went into my bank & asked them to reclaim the funds as I hadn’t been provided the goods. They warned me PayPal might refuse and not release, but they would attempt.
It didn’t work.
Stay away from Toby Deals!0 -
No point blaming them, they got proof of delivery so there is nothing they can do. The fault lies with Yodel, no one will refund when they get proof of delivery.0
