House training question...

hiya
do you mean ignore her if i catch her 'in the act'?
i am already ignoring it (not literally!) and not making a fuss if i dont catch her, but have just been saying 'no' and taking her out if i do catch her.
thanks
I think that is exactly what supermezzo means - and I'd agree, if you do catch her in the act, ignore her. She may find the attention (the act of you say 'nooooo' in a high pitched voice, and diving at her to carry her outside! :rotfl: ) rewarding! Also, and it sounds daft at first, but even if you say 'no' to interrupt her, it may just teach her that you have a problem with her going, so she'll always be reluctant to go when you're near.
Basically, as with all dog training, ignore the bad (difficult sometimes), but reward the good!

Thanks georgina
I have been taking her out on the hour (well more like every 40 mins really) all day, and so far nothing!! all though she has twice gone in the house  although i have been interrupting her to say 'no' and take her outside.
she is now lay next to me on her lead so we can whip out at the first sign of circling! lol
you know i never thought id be posting my dogs toilet habits (or lack of) on a public forum :rotfl:
edited to add: i've also sprayed everywhere with biolocigal washing powder dissolved in waterI don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

wahey!!!! she finally 'went' outside! :T
a wee and a poo!! cue lots of cuddles and treats (whereas previously, when she wasn't doing anything, i'd just been standing still all the time we were out)
fingers crossed thats she'll get the message given a few more days. keeping on the lead indoors really seemed to help- she was crying to get to the place where she usually goes, but obviously i didn't let her go there- so she finally went outside.
hopefully however, the lead thing wont matter in a couple of days- her crate should be here tomorrow- a day or two to get used to it- and wahey- we can start 'puppy training' in earnest :T
thanks everyone for all the advice, and please do keep it coming!
thanks

only a wee overnight :T
how long should i allow her to get used to the crate before locking her in it? presumably you lock them in with lots of toys etc, for short periods to start with, gradually increasing the time spent in there..... i've got her a kong but am going to keep it only for when shes in the crate.
just wondering how long it will be before i can put her in it overnight..
thanks again for all the advice - its really helping!I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

During the say once she is going in the crate herself to lie down. If she does go in for a lay down then lock her in it after a while whilst your at home.
She is lovely
You can put her in it overnight now, if she whines when you do then take her in your bedroom in the crate and gradually put the crate each night further away from you until the crate remains where you want it and she is less stressed, but she may be ok straight away. Please don't put newspaper in the crate though, just her bedding and no toys at night.0 -

the crate will live in my bedroom anyway. i'm intrigued as to why no newspaper or toys?

thanks for the advice :T
The newspaper may encourage weeing or pooing in the crate if the dog has been toilet trained on paper. If the dog was well reared by mum then he won't mess in the crate with no paper.
I wouldn't recommend toys in the crate at night because of chewing but it's up to you, it's your dog so do what you want to do.0 -

ahh - of course- that makes sense not to put newspaper in.
I might let her have a couple of toys, as i dont mind if she chews them up.
