Stop/start
never had a car with this on. Now looking for a new16/17/18 car and most seem to have this. Sitting in a traffic jam, move a few yards each time for an hour. Surely this is a pain !? How many started motors would you get through ? Any experience please. Can this be disabled ??

This is the first thing I switch off when I get in the car.... some cars allow you to switch off, some don't, check before you buy or It will drive you mad!
Incidentally cars only have this so it brings the test results within limits for emissions, nothing to do with saving fuel!0 -
I agree, waste of time.
Many cars have the ability to turn it off though.
With this and keyless entry, it seems we have exhausted all the extras that are beneficial and now its just technology for the sake of technology.0 -
Kia Sportage, Ford Kuga, Volvo XC90. Can turn off ?
Would it be in the handbooK (doubt it).
Thanks for replies.
It would certainly infuriate me, in my given scenario0 -
Puts extra wear on engine its just another method to appease the governments. I turned mine off long time ago in fact when I had it on sometimes didn't even work it would come up with a message on my display that it cant even though it did turn engine off briefly and then start engine again. This is a Honda civic 2012 plate0

My current car has it, and I've also driven several hire cars with it.
It can easily be turned off, but it's unobtrusive and certainly not "infuriating". I've never known a passenger even to notice it.0 -

In my car you'd have to hold the brake for 2 seconds (once the engine is up t temperature and there are no high power requirements in use).
Yes there is a button to disable it when required.0 -
Apparently 2019 new Audi A6 range has it permanently activated? Can't even be turned off with a vagcom (yet?).
The future...??
Enough to put me off one.Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience? Why? So you can argue with them?0 -
On my fifth car with the system from four different manufacturers. 150,000+ miles.
Number of times it has caused a problem or cost me money? Nil.0 -

Just really easy to change when to apply the handbrake; before the use of stop/start, years ago only people in really big queues would think about turning the engine off. When in fact, if the traffic lights have only just turned red, its worth turning the engine off.0 -
My wife bought a Kia Sportage and the first thing I did was ask the salesman how to turn off the stop/start as I assumed it would drive me mad. In practice it wasn't a problem at all. We kept it for six years and the stop/start remained switched on the whole time.0
