Hi, not sure if im on the right thread but I am considering doing life modelling for our local college. Apparently the pay isn't too bad, considering you only have to sit still for a while. Not too sure if ive got the bottle to get my kit off for a bunch of strangers, or worse still to get my kit off and realise one of the students isn't a stranger! anyone done this kind of work before? x

To get a turn round of different body shapes it is usually short term work. You should move to prevent cutting off circulation, some of the poses are difficult to hold but generally the more uncomfortable to hold the shorter the pose say 10 minutes other poses can be held for 20 mins or more.

i do life modelling work at my local university. i lived in manchester before that and attended 3 seperate life classes a week (as a student). Everywhere i went they were despreate for models, and talking to others, it seems that there is a general shortage outside of london. i would advise going and asking at your local uni, colleges and adult education centres, anywhere that offers life modelling as a course.

its not as easy as everyone thinks though, i get 8.50 per hour, but having to stand still for 20-30 minutes is tiring and uncomfortable, not to mention the fact that sometimes you get a-level classes or btec classes where the students arent as mature as would be good. plus a lot can depend on the tutor, i know of a friend who was working as a life model and was left in the same pose for over an hour because the tutor forgot to put in a break, and he was too scared to ask for one.

id say give it a try, these things are rarely contracted, but it is possible to make a good living if you are somewhere where models are in short supply...

in my experience, sometimes tutors would prefer to have one model for up to a term, then change. it gives students a chance to become comfortable with drawing a model and allows them to work on longer term pieces, that might take several lessons to complete.
  • Despite all the talk about how much they take in fees, and they do make a more than fair amount from me,I find ebay is fantastic for making money, good money, see my signature.Takes a bit of time to photograph and list stuff but well worth it.I have made enough to offset the cost of xmas for the last 2 years and am now trying to pay for my wedding through selling stuff on ebay too.

Good stuff, so there should be some work for anyone who wants to do artists and themselves a favour.

  • Hello,

I am a 22 year old female working full time for a firm of solicitors and studying part time to become a solicitor. I have three years under my belt and a couple more to go! My purpose in this message is that I am looking for ways to earn a bit of extra cash.

I have had a second job before but found it a bit of a struggle trying to balance studying and two jobs. Therefore, I am ideally looking for something that I could do from home evenings and/or weekends. I understand that there are lots of "scams" out there regarding working from home and wondered whether anybody had any suggestions? I am very organised and good at working on the office package so typing/data entry would be ideal however I am sure there are plenty of jobs I have overlooked so any suggestions welcome!
