Old Style Daily Monday 7th January

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning everyone :hello:
I tried to post a few times yesterday but kept ketting interrupted by visitors so gave up, although it was a very nice problem to have. So here I am, early in the morning again so I have a fighting chance to get this posted :D.

I am happy to report that the antibiotics are doing a great job and I feel a lot better than I did. The emotional side of it all keeps hitting me though and this is where I really needed my lovely cmht lady. I have decided to ring up the mental health services in this area and ask what on earth they are playing at. I have had no contact bar a letter telling me my new cmht person is off sick since August. I am really flipping cross about it actually so I need to try and get some support from them.

Steve and Lilly go back to work/college after their lovely long break. Steve is worrying himself to death about leaving me but Lee and Phoebe are here and Jemima is coming round to keep me company a bit later on once the grandchildren are in school.

Lee is going to help cook tea tonight again. We are going to have either lasagne or spaggy bol and as it's a large pack of mince, I am planning on making a chilli for tomorrow and hopefully some lentil soup today as that is what I fancy for lunch. I can sit at the table and help chop the veg for everything so I feel as though I am contributing :) .

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, hugs for all the poorly and worried too. Take care xx
  • Morning DUMPLING and all to follow. Pleased to hear the a/b's are doing their job and you are feeling a bit better. I was wide awake again at 3.00 dwelling on things I can do nothing about and mulling over things I can't change, Oh well one day I might manage to sleep a bit longer.

I promised myself come the new year I would begin a serious de-clutter of the house but that has yet to begin. So much stuff and I don't know where to start - so I don't. Maybe come Spring and better weather I might feel more inclined to make a start.

I think today I might take the postponed bus ride to the next town along. This plan was scuppered on Saturday with the impromptu booking of the mobile hairdresser instead. We were due another bus strike today but that's been called of so nothing to stop me.

I made a big pan of Golden Pea & Ham soup yesterday. I froze most of it in portions but left a bowlful in the fridge for my lunch today. That'll warm me up but, I have to say, it feels much milder this morning and we are forecast up to 11 deg. Wow almost tropical.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Thinking gentle thoughts of HOLLY, POPPY and TAFF. Take care all xx

    Morning All

I woke up at 5 and remembered I hadn't put the alarm on! Anyway I went back to sleep for a change and woke with the alarm. Typical on the first day back I could sleep in.

Packed lunch made and bags ready at the front door, we'll see what today brings.

A friend and I are re-joining fat club tonight, I did quite well on it last year and want to loose a little more weight, the exercise can wait until tomorrow!

You sound very positive dumpling, hope you can get in touch with the folk who can help you.
    Have a good day TA.
Hugs to the poorlies and worrieds.

Have a happy Monday, take care. XX
  • Good morning, and thank you Dumpling for starting off.

Glad you seem a bit better Dumpling, hope you can get in touch with your cmht person for some help.

TA this waking up in the early hours is a pain isn't it. I lie there, as you say, worrying about things and people that I have no control over. The fact that I know it's no good worrying does no good, if only I could dismiss things.

Leave your decluttering for a while, you might feel more motivated when the days are longer. Mind, it does lift you a bit when you get rid of stuff that's no good to you any more.

I'm popping up to see a friend for an hour this morning, then I'll go to the book group. After that I don't know what delights await. I tidied the freezer yesterday and re-did the inventory so at leat I know what's lurking in there. I even did some ironing!!

Thoughts to the poorly and sad,

    Take care folks

    Good morning everyone.

Thanks for starting us off dumpling, lovely to know you're feeling better.

There's a gale blowing outside and the rain is bouncing off the house. Not the weather for going out but work starts again.

Last night I did a tidy up / put away session as my cleaner is coming this morning. Unfortunately the poinsettia she gave me at Christmas is on its last legs already. I've cut back the limp bits so it's now only one 'branch'.

There's eggs for breakfast as I boiled some yesterday and mashed them up. Don't think I'll eat the pork belly strips, they were very unappetising.

Thinking of our poorlies- happy Monday.

    Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still pitch black here, but dry underfoot and not too cold.

DH up and gone to work as has DS1, DS2 is moving about and probably getting ready to go for a run before catching a lift with me so he can go to the gym.

Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, carrots, kale, green beans, cauli cheese, peas, yorkshires and gravy - pork was lovely (it was the joint that came with my xmas meat hamper). Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg - it's my long day at work on a Monday and I think today it will be, first day back at school in this area and we haven't been that busy up until now, so think people have been waiting to get the children back to school before coming in to see us! We'll see, nice busy day makes it go quicker.

We were quite lazy yesterday although we did visit the parents in the morning after getting up quite late as we'd had a lovely time with friends the night before and didn't come home until the early hours, no hangover either just tired.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all

Great party :D Ive got to go to work today so you lot carry on and I will be back later, try and keep the noise down to a screech today:rotfl: someone will need to run the hoover round please :D

Roast dinner tonight we made double yesterday so that's a quick easy dinner and not much washing up :j

I have found someone online who will come and collect the old td for free (they get money for the metal) so we need to put that out the front tonight, it will save us a job trying to get it to the tip.

Will have a general quick tidy round tonight but everything is not too bad tbh.

Feels like the proper start to the new year this week as although I did last week this is the first full week so some how seems more 'proper'

Right best get on have good day all xx

Good morning everyone, a home care day for me, now that the Christmas decorations, such as they were have been cleared.

I'll also aim for a swim this afternoon.

I made enough beef casserole to freeze two portions yesterday, and have a pot of mixed veg soup to freeze. Will make celeriac soup today and freeze it too. That gets me up to date with using up the veg box. Next one's due on Wednesday.

Hugs to all poorlies, and I hope everyone has the best day possible. xxx

    Good morning,

I'm glad you're feeling better Dumpling. OL I had the same kind of night as you but minus the dog.

The HT is back at school this morning so I'm going running. I haven't been for two months or so with the build up to Christmas, helping my friend and taking her to appointments etc so I'm expecting it to be a shock to the system. It'll do me good though (I hope :D )

TA maybe join your local freecycle or free page and keep an eye on the "wanteds". It's the slowest ever way of decluttering but it works for me.

Take care all of you :)

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off dumpling

Another one here who can't sleep. Awake at 4am, thought if I lay quietly I may doze off, no such luck.

TA I agree with OL when it comes to de-cluttering the house. If I look at all I don't know where to start and usually give up. Yesterday I sorted the magazines and newspapers on the shelf under the coffee table. Made things look a lot tidier and only took a few minutes. Today I'll maybe tidy a drawer in the kitchen, don't want to rush these things:D

Thoughts are with Holly, taff, poppy, dumpling and anyone finding life difficult.
