Our local recycling centre has issued windscreen stickers to residents, plus a couple of other towns with whom they have an arrangement. It costs a lot of money to run these facilities, so if "outsiders" want to use our tip then they should be charged for doing so.0

2 years ago I needed to dispose of a fridge. I needed a permit (which was free) so applied online and one was duly sent in the post a few days later (costing the council money in staff time and postage).
Do I need to tell you what happened when I got to the tip?
Guy at the tip helped me with the fridge and didn't bother asking to see the permit!!If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
My local tip also has ANPR, you register your vehicles with the council via their website, your car is checked as you enter, good idea I think, stops those people using the tip who don't actually pay their council tax.0

I appreciate all the arguments supporting my council, but anybody going to any tip has to be better than fly tipping.0

But the people 'trying their luck' off borough as its closer to them are not those that are going to fly tip. They will just start using their councils tips.
Those that fly tip will still do so if they live 10 meters or ten miles from the nearest tip.0 -
Im sure plenty of people use a tip thats closer to them rather than the correct one for their area. Swings and roundabouts?
My area lose a bit as people over the line use the wrong tip and gain a bit as people further away use the tip near them.
What about those that have shops on site? Are they going to turn away valuable goods because i live 200 yards over the invisible line?
I would be willing to bet the cost of issuing ID cards or stickers far outweighs any losses from people in the wrong area disposing of their rubbish.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Never seen one with a shop on site.0 -

That can work. It depends on the geography.
Our "tip" used to be very close to the borough boundary. We were happy for people from the neighbouring borough to use our tip as we had residents in a different part of our borough who found it easier to use the neighbouring borough's tip.
When we relocated, there was no reciprocity and we introduced a residents only rule (that had nothing to do with trade waste).0 -

where do "travellers" tip then LEGALLY?0 -
As from this week, anybody going to the council tip in my town has to take proof of address with them to stop out of towners using the facility.
What is the point of this? Surely anybody going to a tip is a responsible person, if they go to the tip and forget proof they will get turned away.
Honestly can't understand the mentality behind this idea.
Very simple
Our local Tip used to to have queues of sometimes 30 minutes
Since they bought in residents only I have never had to queue more than 2 minutes
I am beyond happy with this outcome and that I don't have to wait around for those that do not contribute
