I'm new and after reading a number of threads I have seen what MrsDuck is referring too. It makes me nervous to post or engage sometimes.

Why can't everyone just be nice?!

You will get posters disagreeing with your opinion.
You will get posters telling you that you are wrong.
You will get posters telling you that you don't understand your rights.
You will get posters telling you that you've posted on the wrong board.
You will get posters telling you.........

Although I didn't post on any of Mrs Duck's other 2 threads, I did read them.
FWIW, I personally wouldn't have carried it on with the supplier after being given a replacement. Life's too short - at least it is imho.

And I agree with other posters that all 3 threads would have been better all in the same thread.
For a start, it keeps continuity and for those posters who've either responded or subscribed to a thread, it then appears in their 'User CP' when someone posts again so they know there's an update.
I would have thought that was pretty standard internet etiquette - like necro-posting.

This is my opinion only and you are perfectly at liberty to disagree.

You'll probably come to learn that PVW & Consumer Rights boards generate a fair amount of disagreement.

You weren't very nice about Tesco! And you've been pretty rude on a couple of threads for a newbie, so practise what you preach my dear.

Hello all. I hope that this post will be seen to fall in the correct forum. I'd say it is definitely a rant of sorts.
I have noticed a lot of impatience to new users of this site in regards to who posts where and why etc.
Also I have noticed that people reply to posts not to be helpful but to either be rude or just because they like to argue for arguments sake.!! No matter what people write or how much care they take to try and give a short but concise account of what their issues or question is, it seems we get a barrage of people who scroll through the post with the deliberate intention of avoiding the question but yet aim to pick holes in the post. No matter how we try and explain, the replies get worse and worse until we feel bad for asking advice in the first place.
I am aware that I am not the type of person who belongs in this type of environment and I've been here just a few days!! I won't be here much longer but thank you for all the people who did at least try and make me feel welcome or at least tried to offer, genuine, helpful advice.
C'mon haters do your worst. I'll let you have free reign whilst I'm still here.

From my short experience on msn the process seems to go a little something like this-

    -Post a problem/issue

-Your username will then be clicked and your old posts trawled through.
Anything negative from old threads will then be commented on in this new thread.

-Your grammar/ language will be made fun of regardless of whether English is your first language or the fact you may have dyslexia etc

-The same 2 or 3 forum members will follow each other around virtually high 5ing each other and when one of them makes a 'funny ' comment, usually regarding the above points.

-For every 5 posts not even mentiong the Original issue, one helpful person will actually comment on topic giving help or advice.

Before you click my username to drag up old things ( see point above) I'm not necessarily talking about the odd thread I start but the dozens or hundreds I read daily.

MSE on the whole is not a friendly place these days. Certain members will defend that point and in doing so defend certain members hiding behind them being 'blunt, to the point etc etc '. Unfortunately it goes well beyond being 'blunt' it is rude, unfriendly and hostile at times in here.

That’s not true and you know it. The vast majority of posts are answered correctly. Only when an OP comes back being rude do people look at other posts to see if there is a pattern.

I have NEVER seen grammar trolling unless the OP:

    A) isn’t putting their point across clearly and someone politely suggests that maybe they are similarly not doing the same with the company.
    B) someone else picks on something when their own grammar is shocking
    C) someone slags off some ‘foreigner they cant understand on the phone’ when their own grasp of English is poor at best...

Feel free to link some examples if you don’t agree Billy. There’s plenty of posts on the first page to look at to prove your point...

I've been posting on a number of public forums for quite a few years.

In fact, it will be 12 years tomorrow since I joined MSE. :j

I think the initial post quite often sets the tone for replies that follow, particularly on the PVW & Consumer rights boards.

If posters come on with a just a question, most replies are friendly and helpful.

If they are being belligerent and spouting 'their rights' which are clearly incorrect, then the replies tend to be more harsh.
I'm not saying that's right, just how I perceive it to be.
A lot of people in the second category only want to be told what they want to hear.
They are the people who often throw their toys out of the pram and delete all their posts.

Look at the post immediately above yours (#15).
That is pointing out grammatical/punctuation errors made by the OP.
I really can't see the point of that post at all - unless it's to make the OP look foolish and/or themselves look superior.
I've not quoted it as I hope that poster may reconsider and delete it.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I rest my case.

Katrina, please see directly above my first comment. Punctuation and grammar corrections from one poster to another. Your A,B and C criteria was not met.

Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there.

I'm not sure if you have just deliberately trolled me....

    Typical! :rotfl:

I WOULD perhaps argue that meets your argument of the OP setting the tone. They did ask people to do their worst. Maybe grammar trolling is that!

Seriously though, I have never seen someone trolling spelling and grammar on a 'typical' post on the site without provocation or reason (I have myself pointed it out before, usually when someone has been uncomplimentary about the comprehensibility of an 'Indian call centre' etc. because I think its unnecessary to do so, and hypocritical when you struggle with your own first language, never mind a second one) I don't think a rant about the replies on the site counts as a 'typical' post about someones real life issues.

I wasn't referring specifically to this thread and the opening post.

I was 'speaking' generally - across all of the fora I post on, not just MSE and not just P,V & W board.
