Good heavens, Carboot! What a horrendous time you've had, and what a lovely friend to come to your rescue like that. Thanks for letting us know what's going on - I'll be watching for your next post. All the best.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Wow carboot! What an upheaval for you and OH! I'm so pleased to hear that you've found a nice, peaceful retreat to stay whilst all this is going on. What a lovely friend to have.
If you don't mind me saying, IF you have to rebuild, this will be nothing but a good thing for the longer term. A bungalow with all mod cons built where you want on your land sounds like exactly what you need now you are both in your 70s.
Looking forward to reading your updates when you can post again.

I'm so glad you have such a generous friend who has lent you a lovely home to live in :T. What a dreadful upheaval for you to have to move out and it must have been a dreadful shock to hear that they may have to demolish your house and rebuilt  .
However, as long as the insurance covers it then there could be benefits. As you've pointed out a bungalow could be useful as you and OH get older, plus you'd have new and up to date wiring and electrics, etc, etc. So you could end up much better off.
Having said that it is still a terrible upheaval for you and you must be feeling unimaginably stressed.
I'll be thinking of you and hoping that things work out for the best. Update when you can, but we know how difficult it is for you to get online at the moment. It's nice to think of you in a cabin in the woods squirrel watching anyway.

Just to say I’m so sorry about the upheaval you are undergoing . You have accomplished so much in the last year and now this has hit you . You have proved how strong you are though and I’m sure you will ride this out.Wishing you the best of luck ,this could well be the break you deserve !0

I'm so glad to hear that despite the unbelievable upheaval, there is at least the chance to stay in a lovely cabin. With the privations you've been living with, it's almost like a holiday (no, I know it isn't!).
As HH says, it is rather a nice image of you squirrel-watching in the woods!
I do hope things progress without any more nasty surprises, though I don't think there's much left you COULD be faced with.
But how is OH coping with the 'warm and cosy' log-burner ?0 -
Wow, what a lot of upheaval! Hope it can all be sorted positively x"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0

Wow, that is a huge change and quite a lot of uncertainty for you in terms of timescale. I hope it doesn't all take too long and you can get a snug, well built, all on one level home.
Your friends cabin sounds lovely and glad you have somewhere like that to stay and are comfortable. Take care0 -
Wow. It is all happening.
