Been absent for a few days, so just catching up on the latest posts. Hope you are feeling ok now CBC. It is fine to have a moan about pains and health things sometimes. We all do it and we are all here to support each other, which is what I like about my cyber friends. I have done a lot of moaning about different health conditions in the past and everybody has always been very supportive.

Thank you so much to the lovely people:A who have sent their best wishes about our current plight. Your kindness means such a lot at what are very difficult and stressful times.
Have been without any internet capability (an ongoing situation:mad:) so I'm posting a message on here hoping that the people whose diaries I post on will see it and realise why I've been absent and will continue to be so.
Thanks to the specialist structural surveyor team our garden is full of massive, scarily deep, water-filled muddy holes after incessant rainy days (think scenes of the trenches in WWI:eek:) and there are huge holes several feet deep in all downstairs solid floors. They've been leaving their heavy plant here as they've had to return all week and are based about 100 miles away. The water supply and electrics have had to be turned off so it's been impossible for us to stay here this past week. A lovely friend has a gorgeous Scandinavian-style wooden cabin (although it's so luxurious the word 'cabin' conjures up a different picture altogether:rotfl:) and he very kindly offered it to us for as long as we need it, within reason. To be honest I'd gladly live here forever. It's sited in a forest and we've been sitting inside watching squirrels etc through the huge double-glazed windows. There's an all-round verandah, not at ground level, but the weather has been too atrocious for us to sit out on it yet:(. There are 3 big bedrooms (2 en-suite) plus a bathroom to die for. It has what would be my dream kitchen if I had it at home, and the place is so warm and cosy with a lovely wood-burner (and a huge supply of logs). The only downside is there is no TV and internet connection here. There will be eventually but the owner hasn't got round to installing it, it's a new build. I don't have a smartphone, only my laptop, so I need to find wi-fi somewhere such as the nearest library, as I'm doing now. It will be a rare event though as it's several miles away.
To be honest I'm quite enjoying being out of contact with life but just wanted to 'touch base' as it were. We will be staying here for a few more weeks as it's near enough for OH to keep driving home to check on developments and pick up the post. The friend who owns this house isn't planning to move in until May so we'll still have plenty of time to find another 'temporary' home for the duration. The insurers, engineers and surveyors have mentioned possibly demolishing our house and rebuilding:j. As you see, it's a huge job that needs doing and the ground structure below the house is totally unstable. They don't think underpinning will be the solution but we await more detailed reports. I expect, as is the way with these things, we'll be waiting a while:(. As our site is about half an acre we could have the new dwelling build on more stable land (and in a better place IMO, further back from the lane and more centrally on the plot). I would prefer a bungalow anyway (we need to think about future-proofing where we live and we're both long in the tooth:() but that needs a bigger 'footprint' and the local council is very iffy about granting permission for any kind of building in this area:mad:. We have no near neighbours who might object and that might help in any application but again all the red-tape involved means things take forever to be agreed. It's worse than Brexit, if such a thing could be possible:rotfl:
I may have mentioned on other diaries in the past a massive willow tree (taller than our house) which is at the corner of the adjoining land nearest to us. The owner lives in The Grange, a massive Georgian house on his estate of many acres and which is far from the dratted tree which has caused us so many problems over the years by lashing on the overhead telephone wires from the telegraph pole to our house. The insurers sent a tree surgeon to assess any potential problems with tress as the surveyors encountered massive and harmful roots when excavating. Apparently the safe distance for a willow tree from a property is 40 metres. I reckon the one we're quibbling about is no more than 15:eek:. The insurer mentioned recouping costs from the owner's insurers. I hope they do it and not expect us to as it doesn't sound like fun:rotfl:.
All in all, it looks like being an 'interesting' spring and summer. Will be back when I get a chance, maybe next week, so please don't be offended if I don't respond to any of your posts in the interim. Take care, everyone. Thanks for reading (if you've managed to struggle to the end;)). Must go, the library visit is over as I need to do other things now I'm in town.0 -
What a palaver Carboot . It's lovely to hear from you
. I'll reply at more length later as I have to go out now, but I didn't want to read and run.
