    Evening Diary,

Managed a no spend today if you do not count the Tesco Delivery and me dropping off my punctured spare tyre which was booked in at the garage.

Only bounced one direct debit today :o:o. Electricty bill, which will hopefully retry in a few days time.
Self employed DH won't get paid until the 7th January and even then it will only be for a three day week, so expecting more failed DD's while I prioritise which bills get paid. :o

I am always in this situation every new year. It will probably take me until the end of Feb to catch up with missed Direct debits and stalled bills.

I am off to take a look at some of the challenge threads to see if I can get some inspiration.

Hope to raise some extra money doing longer hours at work this month, but i also have a smallholding with cows and sheep to look after and kids to ferry around to clubs etc so it's a tricky balance fitting everyone in.

    xxxx
  • Welcome back Steph

I am just about to start a new diary as nothing has really changed for me apart from I've managed to get rid of my husband!!!
  • Wow, a smallholding! I've not got further than poultry and a veg patch but admire anyone who can work and smallholder at the same time.

    Hi EE, I remember you!!.

Sorry to hear about the husband issue, although you sound quite happy about it ;)

I will try to find your new diary and we can slink back to MSE together :rotfl:

    Hi Honeysuckle Lou

I would love a proper farm but will settle for three of everything, Dh thinks we live on Noahs Ark :rotfl:

We keep Ducks & geese but never have much luck with hens. Will try a new batch this Spring. We always rear on some meat chicks as well for the freezer. All good fun :D

    Thanks for looking in :)

    Evening

Been a pretty uneventful day. Bank balance not changed, still -£178 overdrawn. I'm sure a direct debit will have bounced today but not much I can do until Monday when Dh gets his first 2019 wage.

I've been working an extra hour every night this week to try to bump up the January wages. Plan on doing this as much as possible, I have to tread lightly as my boss ideally wants me working 9-5pm every day but with two young teens with alot of sporting hobbies and a busy smallholding, I have held tightly to my 3pm finish so I have chance to get everything else in my life looked after. The overtime is quite handy during cash strapped times like now though. ;)

I've started listening to The Dave Ramsey Podcast app on my way to work and back again. Wish I could find a British equivilent as a hefty percentage of the show is not relevant to me being an American show. It still does a good job in motivating me to sort out my finances.

    So it's Friday tomorrow :T
Going to resist inviting friends over for dinner as that will cost me lots of money. Going to have a quiet few days, got to get the children prepared ready for restarting school on Monday.

I might try to sort out their bedrooms a little as they have got abit crazy after the influx of Christmas gifts.

Well thats all for today. Will check in on some diaries now xx

  • Evening Steph, I know it's all relatively but I envy your £178 overdrawn, mine gets up to £2400 at worst so definitely need to get rid.

3pm finishes are best for your life, although I don't know how you manage to fit so much in during the day.

Can you change any of the dates of your direct debits to later in the month?

I can't get on with Dave Ramsey, what he says is great I just don't like him and I don't have a reason for it!!

    Hope you've had a good evening, H x

    Hi Igamogam

Thanks for stopping by. Glad it's not just me that is taking a whole lifetime to get rid of her debt :o

    Hi Huggle

I guess you're right except I did used to have a massive Od with Barclays but I switched bank accounts and left my OD behind and spent a whole year paying the damn thing back. Too scared to get an overdraft again as I just can't be trusted.

DH gets paid weekly so having the DD's spreadout over the month works well. My main issue is christmas overspending. If I had an ounce of self control I should have saved some money to cover the New Years bills :( #impulsiveidiot

Yeah I guess Dave Ramsey is an acquired taste, wish MSE Martin did podcasts or something similar.

Hope you are have a good New year xxx
