I want a life without failed Direct Debits :-(

Morning and Happy New Year.
I logged on yesterday to a message from MSE to congratulate me on being a member for 10 Years!!!. So why the hell do I still have 12k of debt
During 2016-7 (I think) I posted on my diary on here every day and it really helped me combat the debt. I think I actually managed to halve it!.
Since then i got a 30 hour a week job and lost time to easily log on here and I fell off the waggon. Thankfully (weirdly) my credit rating is so bad I haven't been able to make my debt any worse but it has stuck at the 12K mark.
During the last year i have lost some friends to illness etc so I do not want to pay so much against debt that we as a family do nothing all year, BUT I do want to move the needle in the right direction and be able to look back in a years time and have maybe knocked a third off the debt without feeling any pain. This is possible i just need to remember to make a monthly payment and stop the dribble of silly spends that use up that spare cash.
I plan on trying to find 10 minutes a day to come on here to update my diary and log into YNAB to balance my account and try to keep some control.
I used to have lots of lovely supportive friends on here and look forward to maybe finding some of you again and also discovering new ones.
Here's to a 2019 with less missed direct debits and months with unorthorised overdrafts :T

Hi Steph, welcome back! I've been here for ages although under different user names because I'm so embarrassed that I am here still. I used to comment on your threads.
Hope you had a good Xmas, did you make any wreaths this year?
Sorry to hear about a difficult year, good luck with your plans this year.

Thanks Huggle, It's so nice to discover my old pals from on here, I've missed it. Once life gets back into full swing next week I need to make sure I carve out time to come on here. It really helps.
I did'nt do the wreaths this year. I am now working over 30 hours per week so literally no time was spare to consider making them, I am also making more money now on these hours so even though i always need the money I figured I have made more than I would usually make with the wreaths if that makes sense.
Do you have a diary?. I am trying to build up some diaries I can now follow for inspiration.
Hope you have lots of great plans for 2019.

You are not alone in struggling with debt demons. Are the credit cards charging interest and have you stopped using them to buy stuff?
I suggest you set a direct debit for a monthly amount you can afford on even a bad month and ideally above minimum payment especially if you are being charged interest. I remember your old diary but I think you were working much lower hours so 30 is great. Maybe keep a spending diary to see where your money is drifting away. Spending mindfully is the way to go rather than mindlessly as that often means uncontrolled budgets.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Hello my dear, I think of you often (every time I take the lovely cover that you made for me off my bread maker in the kitchen in fact).
How is life in deepest darkest Dorset? OH and I stayed a week between Bridport and Lyme Regis in September, we had a lovely time visiting old haunts and catching up with friends and Old neighbours.
I will subscribe again and pop in and cheer you on sometimes, I have been thinking of a diary for myself, but am pretty sure that one or two people know me in RL, so wouldn't want to post much/anything about family or finances. I do need to get my act together though and clear a credit card, might try the 100 squares thingy.:rotfl:The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

Thanks doing it anyway, I have long since lost any pride about financial failures. The perils of an impulsive fun seeker0 -

Hi abba, Thanks for the welcome back. I will come and find you on your diary soon xxxHello my dear, I think of you often (every time I take the lovely cover that you made for me off my bread maker in the kitchen in fact).

Hi MaddieMay
Gosh I had forgotten about that breadmachine cover. Can't beleive it is still going
Sad to have had to quit the crafting but it doesn't bring in any serious money so had to be a grown up in the end and go out to work.
It's amazing that my old friends are still around here, i'm so pleased.
I need to sort out some new challenges. I always did enjoy filling in those 100 squares . I might join you :T
Please do pop in occasionally, especially if you don't start a diary of your own. I have often wondered if anyone in my RL will read my diary but frankly i'm past caring. i'm a pretty open book to most people anyway so not much left to hide.
