PIP declined due to nice house

Hi.

I have a feeling my mom was declined PIP because she lives in a nice house. The lady came out and assessed her but I have a feeling she was jealous of my mom's house, which has been in her family for 3 generations. I think she gave lower points because my mom was fairly 'well off' in her opinion. my mom was just 1 point short of the basic allowance. There was something off about the woman. She was young and probably can't get onto the property ladder herself. Maybe she expects my mom to sell her house or downsize? She kept commenting on how nice the house was, looking around etc. This is just ridiculous, I know, I can't prove it. But I know this is what happened. Can I complain?

    Dear DWP
I wouid like to make a complaint about someone else's claim which I believe was turned down due to a "nice house" although I have no evidence whatsoever to back this up.

Not going to get your mother very far.
Have you read the descriptors to see where you think she should get the points? That should be your starting point, plus an appeal as per the previous post.

  • My aunt claims PIP.She lives in a beautiful old house to die for.The assessor came out to see her at home but it didn't affect her claim. She got enhanced awards.Where and how you live is not an issue.I'm sure they see many beautiful and nice houses. Its not going to bias them against you.

Maybe it was the fact that your mum was up a ladder cleaning out the guttering that may colour the assessor's report.

Were you actually present when the assessor visited your Mum?

There's lots of 'I have a feeling...' and 'I think...' in your post but little substance.

Yes, you could complain but based on what you've said above, I really don't see much chance of success.

It would also help the OP if he included facts in his complaint.

OR alternatively, perhaps his son could assist his grandmother with the £30,000 he made in two months!
