The CIFAS marker is the most important one to get resolved, so do this first. Then go through all the other incorrect associations.

    Thanks for the support.

I have sent an email to all credit reference ceo's and the information commissioner and the cifas boss including my local mp.

Experian has been the first to get back with the ceo getting a case manager assigned to this urgently knowing I have suffered the worst one can of losing a job when i went through all the hurdles of getting the job in the first place. J really do think some numpty somewhere has recorded this for the sake of it not knowing the implications this can cause to one. I even emailed all the people my email trail with the company director for the company who offered me the job as proof of what i have suffered.

Thanks Jimbo. I know it's the most important one.

In previous threads and old forums It has come to my attention that once these markers were visible on credit reports but not anymore unless they are to do with identity theft or impersonation.

Hi guys below is the email I got from the HR director from the company I got the job offer. Whilst I am awaiting more replies to this thread in relation to cifas. Would be delighted to know what you make of this email. Albeit it not what I wanted from the employer but the last paragraph is the most confusing I have read. It reads in simple that we can't reinstate the job offer but then states keep us in the loop hole with my cifas issues. I'm guessing the company is trying to empathise with me and show that it cares about my current sufferings of this awful situation. Would be grateful to get your thoughts.

Further to my email of Xxx December, I have had a chance to discuss this with my colleagues.! Firstly, please be assured that I can understand how upsetting this must be for you and your family.! Given your extensive service with XXX your Bank, I realise you’ll also understand how important establishing the appropriate references are within the financial services industry to enable our company to provide the support and assurance expected to our customers and our regulators.

I believe our team advised you directly of the outcome of the CiFAS checks and that these were not passed. We then guided you to seek clarity directly from CiFAS and your option to submit a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) to this company to establish the nature of the problems.! This is something that you legally entitled to request given you feel there are errors associated with your file and the checks that have been conducted against the data points of your name, address and date of birth and the flags associated with these, which you were clearly unaware of until this point.! From our separate email exchange I believe this is something you are underway with as you have also discovered that a review of your credit file has resulted in you discovering that you are registered and connected to your family members for all their financial affairs and at addresses where you have not resided. !

When my colleague ChXXXX discussed the CiFAS outcome with you directly on Friday, I believe you were of the view at that time that unfortunately you suspected people known to you may have potentially either intentionally or by accident misappropriated your identity.! Whether this in fact does transpire to be the case, unfortunately the application to review and repair this position, is not something that our bank is able to do on your behalf and so I would urge you to progress your discussions with CiFAS and indeed all other credit agencies to ensure you receive the answers to your questions.! It may also be helpful for you to discuss this with those you suspect may be involved so you can ascertain any other agencies that might require you to contact them should your identity have been misrepresented or indeed misappropriated.

Please be assured that decisions to halt offers of employment are never taken lightly and it reflects the importance to our business that these checks are completed satisfactorily.! Given your understanding of the financial services industry I know you’ll understand that these checks are very common within the sector and would be applicable to other companies that you were in the process of making an application for employment.! Albeit frustrating, my advice to you would be, that you take the time to robustly review and set straight your reference files and put in place a process for on-going monitoring to ensure you stay in control of these records.

Given my assumption that you which to progress your career within Banking, I wish you every good fortune and success in your discussions and that you resolve this with CiFAS and others as soon as you can.! At this point I would like you to very quickly contact ChXXXX again ( she is cc’d to this email) and we would be delighted and warmly invite you to consider employment opportunities with our bank again.! Please keep ChXXXX posted on your progress in the meantime.

    Many kind regards,

What’s with the exclamation marks in the email?

In the meantime you can get other work - there’s plenty of agency or temp work out there especially at this time of year.

You need to wait until CIFAS comes back to you to advise what level of CIFAS marker they have applied against you before the next steps - so just hang tight.

It could be because your siblings all (oddly) have the same first name as you and it’s a case of a general mistake.

Apply to work at a lender that isn't a member of CIFAS....

Best of luck in resolving it, I imagine it's a nightmare!!

Edit: And hope they don't contract out the employment screening.

If it's a smaller lender they may just do a basic credit search on you in house and then let you start - depends on how senior your job is of course. Branch staff checks would be less robust than say Credit Risk/Fraud Team/Senior Management etc

Also to make things a little bit more interesting I have 5 siblings with the same first and last name as mine (as mine) but different middle initials. One of them also has the same initials as me.
Your parents haven't half messed things up for you.

    Hope you get things sorted.
