Cifas

Hi everyone. Really worried. I got offered a job after 4 months of searching once being made redundant from previous bank I worked for. New job also with a bank. After job offer the company carried out vetting checks like DBS and job referencing and credit check. They also carried out a Cifas check. Although worked in a bank never ever come across cifas or heard of it. As usual I thought everything would be fine but turned out that these a marker with my name on the cifas register.
I was shocked and the job offer got revoked. My Christmas has been the worst ever seeing my wife and 3 lovely children's faces look so down as I'm not able to do all things I wished for as now I will be contingency planning to get through each day as it comes. I.e. survive. Not on any benefits and it's hard to apply as I have been told to apply for universal credits. Never received benefits in the past as salary was good. Personally I don't like claiming even though as workers we have paid into the system. It's just the interrogation that I don't like.
Cut the story short. I have never been refused for credit anda always paid bills and debt on time.
Never done anything to my knowledge that could affect me.
A friend of mine told me to check my credit report properly as previously was using Clearscore which never gave true reflection of my credit file.
Hence I checked call credit, equifax and experian. Shocked and surprised to see I am linked to al3 of my siblings for financial affairs i.e. their mortgages and credit card and I have links to all my siblings addresses. Put it in simple the reports are soo worryingly wronf that I looks like I have been involved in alot of different financial associations of some sort and have lived at several addresss.
Truth be told I havent ever used these addresses or lived at them part from my brothers.
Also to make things a little bit more interesting I have 5 siblings with the same first and last name as mine but different middle initials. One of them has the same initials as me.
My question is: what could be the reasoning behind me having a link to the national fraud register cifas. I have mulled over endless times with my wife and have come up with a few thoughts;
1. When I have knowingly provided the correct information to banks and other financial institutions when applying for any type of credit or insurance. They might have thought im telling them a lie about my past residences or something of that sort when the truth is I havent as I have only ever lived at my current address and mums previously.
2. May be one of my siblings has committed a fraud and the cifas marker has been registered against the name and address only on the application or account thats been applied for.
I have read various forums and no.2 scenario apparently puts a mark againt all living at the address when cifas date bade is searched.
I requested a SAR for cifas - sent on 21st of this month and recieved by someone at cifas on 24th as I sent special delivery. Will wait to see what information is on there but I am worried to death about this. Please can anyone give me some ideas of what this can be.
I tried to plead with the new employer to work with me and get to the bottom of this as i havent done anything wrong and they just weren't having anything of it.
No job and 3 kids to feed really need anyone in a similar situation to help me.

Just edit the first post.
Can you summarise the issue in 1 or 2 sentences as well0 -

Nothing you can do until you find out what's on there. Then you can take it up with the institution that loaded the data.0 -
In the meantime, while awaiting a response from CIFAS, I urge you to make your application for benefits. Don't be reticent. This can be done online I believe. You need to ensure you have income whilst you seek alternative employment.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0 -
Hi guys. I will be making appointment with benefits office to claim until I find a job. I must say the lowest point in my life losing a job through redundancy and being knocked back for the only opportunity.
To all;
I have as mentioned looked at various forums but their all have different messages on there as what to expect with cifas.
My main questions as asked on point 1 and 2.
1. To reiterate In the simplest format could it be possible when i have applied for a specific product or service the organisation has thought of me as a fraudster of some sort due to myself having links to my siblings and several addresses which all belong to my family members.
2. May be one of my siblings has done something wrong and I'm suffering for it as we all have the same first and last name. All thanks to my late father for having an obsession for keeping the same first and last names.
I know I have to wait for cifas but would be good to know other peoples struggles and may be some hints as to what it could be. As mentioned in stressing like hell. If I was a criminal or fraudster I wouldn't even bother to go all through this trouble.0 -

Crikey, talk about making life difficult for your kids. Little wonder all the records have merged.
You will need to get copies of free reports for all the main CRAs and spend a great deal of time picking out the companies who have incorrectly linked you to your brothers, and contact them to rectify the incorrect associations.
You may want to consider changing your name, as this issue will probably haunt you forever. (this is not a flippant comment but a genuine suggestion)0 -
Thanks Jimbo.
But left in a very difficult positon as the job i got offered paid good money and was a good job.
The bad news is unfortunatley I won't be able to apply for any financial services jobs where all my experience lies..
Truly the worst that can happen to someone.0 -
Thanks Jimbo.

You will, once you have sorted all the incorrect entries. If you don't choose to change your name you will need to keep on top of your credit reports, and I would suggest checking all three every month, as you will start to see incorrect associations again.
PS I hope you haven't given your 3 kids the same names.0 -
Get your complaints in to the agencies and the firm that incorrectly linked the CIFAS to you, you will get it cleared, be positive, then you can start applying again
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
