Life and health have been a little trying recently, my DM has been poorly for a week and we think she has had a tia/slight stroke. She has been/is confused on times and experiencing some classic symptoms. She is in residential care where the staff are excellent, but she has completed the paperwork for DNR and insisted on receiving minimal intervention and wishes not to be admitted to hospital but stay there and let nature take its course.

She is conscious, eating and sitting out of bed, lucid, but quieter than usual and there seems to have no spark. She got confused and anxious 2 days ago and summoned us all (5 of us) to her bedside, but as soon as the last one of us who was in the area arrived she settled down and slept for 2 hours whilst we all sat/stood around chatting - quite surreal

Today I gave myself some "me time" for a little pampering, but had a fit of the giggles when I realised that the hair mask I had just applied was in fact a face mask, pretty much the same thing, but a little runnier I guess

I'm sure it's just as moisturising maddie . I think we've all done daft things sometimes. You've got a lot on your mind.:A

It's a worrying time for you but it sounds like your mum has decided how she wants things to be. I admire her for that. :)

I was wondering whether some sugar would give me some energy. The chocolate marzipan seems like a good idea. :D:o:xmassmile
  • Not feeling even remotely fab. Looks like I have got food poisoning. Chicken. :(

Just resting. Thankfully everything is done for Christmas and there's a couple of days yet.

Sorry to hear that you are suffering from food poisoning LL :( I hope you are fully recovered in the next 48 hours

I never take any notice of film critics. I am quite able to make up my own mind once I have watched a film. ;) I have watched so many films that I personally found great this year, but other people would not find so good. It always comes down to how engrossed I get in a film and how entertaining I find that film. :D
  • maddie hope your mom is improved soon

lessonslearned- the food poisoning it rotten- just rest and take care

sugar- im glag you enjoyed the film. critics can be very odd in their recommendations; sometimes some escapism is what is needed.

I'm still resting and catching up on watching the food network. There is an irony of watching all the food I can't eat. I have developed an addiction to cooking books.

Hope you're feeling a bit better today LL.:)
I'm still resting and catching up on watching the food network. There is an irony of watching all the food I can't eat. I have developed an addiction to cooking books.

I don't buy cookery books any more as I find it easy to find recipes online but I do love watching cookery programmes. I sometimes adapt the recipes (originals are too full of oil/sugar/cream etc for me). Recently I've really enjoyed Rick Stein's Secret France as his programmes are like a travelogue and a cookery programme rolled into one.

I keep a file of tried and tested recipes we like and also a box of print outs/ magazine cuttings. When I'm sure it's a recipe that's a keeper it gets transferred into the file. :)

I was up early (for me) this morning. We had an electrician round to replace the CH thermostat. I've suspected for a while that it wasn't working properly (CH was on hot or nothing). Once he'd sourced the part it didn't take him long so that's a good job done.

I've just been slathering my hands in hand cream. I've been cleaning the 'best' cutlery for Christmas and also a couple of family heirlooms like the brass candlesticks from my grandmother's home. :)

I've got the last machine load of washing on that I plan to do before Christmas. When it's done, I want to iron the table linen for Wednesday too. We have an octagonal dining table so it doesn't take to a cloth well and the wood is beautiful so it looks far better with mats. I have some lovely white lace table mats and napkins that I bought in Hong Kong. They're all clean but probably need an iron over them.

There's nothing I must do before tomorrow when I'll get milk and bread. It's my tradition to prep the veg while listening to 9 lessons and carols from Kings College. Then DD and I will go to a teatime service .:)

Hope everyone is enjoying the build up to Christmas and taking time to look after yourselves.:)
  • I hope you are feeling better LL.

I am looking forward to having a very quiet Christmas. My husband is working tonight but then has two weeks off after that. We are going out next Friday but other than that we are just resting and relaxing.

I was thinking that I have gone out so much this past year! :rotfl:

I think it was to make up for staying in for so many years while my husband had cancer and then I had fibromyalgia. But I need to rein in the nights out next year to save money. We have 10 nights out at concerts booked already before June 2020 but that is all I'm doing and the concerts are already paid for. We do still have to shell out for the dogs boarding at the vet and I think that is for 6 of the concerts we have together.

Oh yes, I just remembered that I am meeting my friend at a vegan cafe in East London in January as well.:o:p

It is so mild here. I am going out for a walk to feed the birds and buy some dog treats as we have run out. Hopefully I haven't forgotten anything else but luckily some of the shops around here are open on Christmas day until 10 at night. The bonus of living in London.

I am wearing my black skirt, my tights, skechers and my "new" dyed pink jumper. I really like those skechers as they are so comfortable and I think I might buy another pair next year.:)

    Good afternoon lovely ladies

Sorry to hear about your Mum, Maddie. Xx

Well I'm about the same.....didn't have the best of nights so just grabbing some sofa time now. I know I have a temperature but no idea what it is.....I really must invest in a thermometer now that I'm getting a bit long in the tooth. :rotfl:

Nice and mild here too, so just went for a stroll to the local shops so at least I have managed to get some fresh air today. Didn't set foot over the threshold yesterday.

Not doing much, reading, watching a bit of tv....thinking and planning. I could do some cooking but I've still got tomorrow so I'll leave it for today.

It has only just occurred to me that not only will it be a new year it will also be a new decade. Could be my last.......although I certainly hope not. :rotfl:

Anyway I think a new decade calls for some sweeping changes and fresh challenges. I have started an "ideas" folder.....where I'm jotting down ideas, changes I want to make, courses I'm interested in, with various contact details, addresses and websites for further information, books I want to read.

I don't know if I have mentioned this but I felt a bit low over the last few months, not a proper clinical depression as such, but just a general sense of apathy and cba. A sort of "doldrums". Everything was just a huge effort and it all seemed a bit pointless.

I think this is a natural part of grieving.....hopefully the final part of the jigsaw. I never did go to bereavement counselling.....just not my kind of thing .....but as far as I can tell I think I'm finally ready to move forward .

I definitely Feel more energised and am now looking forward to the future.

Once I've got rid of this wretched stomach upset. :rotfl:

  • Merry Christmas Ladies. I hope you all have a great Christmas surrounded by the love of your family and good friends

  • I had a pampering session in the bath this morning. I shaved my legs and used a body scrub.

I tried on the black wrap dress I was going to wear tomorrow and it is too big so I have put it in the donation bag for the chazzer! I have to wear something different now.:D

I'm going to wash my hair tonight and do a load of washing so I don't have much to do Christmas day apart from cook (and eat) dinner.:)

We are probably going to watch a horror film tomorrow which isn't very Christmassy I know but I'm not very conventional.:rotfl:

I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas whatever you are doing.
