Frump to Fab 2019 - Here We Go Again

I just googled the lady from Bucks Fizz. I barely remember them as I was quite young when they were at the height of their fame. I was initially surprised to learn that the lady in question only spent £1000 a year, but as many of the lovely ladies on this thread have demonstrated, it is possible to look good in a budget. She sounds quite savvy, so she could be a brilliant bargain hunter.
Sugar your family meal sounds yummy.
Lessons sorry to hear about your aunt. I love that she was also a fabber!!0 -
Thoroughly enjoyed the Downton movie and so did DH. It was a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon (we went to a 3 pm performance) and the plot was easy and the clothes and interiors very easy on the eye. Undemanding and relaxing, what I look for in entertainment.:)
I noticed from the trailers that ITV have a new period drama coming up. IIRC it's called Belgravia.
I've decided to give up on Sanditon. It's moved so far from Jane Austen that now it's just becoming sex in bonnets! :rotfl:0 -

hope everyone is in good form and fabbing away.
I have been quiet recently as poorly for the last two weeks. It was your typical flu like virus but got a bit worse. I seem to have just been zapped of energy. I didnt give myself time to rest but sometimes you have to get on with it.
lessons - Im considering doing a revamp of the kitchen. However, I just want to wait till I know what I want and wait till after christmas. It will give me time to really consider what will work. Should I revamp units or rip it out- change the order of the units or even remove the fridge and use pull out drawers! Too many decisions.
I need to revamp the wardrobe- possibly a nice scarf or boots. I don't see the point in buying too much that will not last. I was lucky enough to get a few transitional pieces in the sales.0 -
Good morning lovely ladies...
Slept badly and am shattered. Really don't fancy another week of hard graft but need to push on. Try and get my bedroom and finished or at least to a stage where I can move back in. I'm fed up with sleeping on an air bed. It's a good one and is comfortable enough but its not the same as my bed.
At least it's nice and sunny here today.
SFT. I too am postponing my kitchen till after Christmas. I will try and finish the dining area (it's a kitchen/diner) but the actual kitchen bit will have to wait. I can't do it all. Rome wasn't built in a day and right now it does feel like I'm building Rome. This renovation is bigger and more expensive than I thought - well they always are of course - but it is taking longer than I had hoped.
Hey ho.....I'll get there. And anyway, it keeps me out of mischief. :rotfl:
Looking forward to getting straight again.....and really looking forward to decluttering some more. I also need a shopping trip in the next couple of weeks, undies and knitwear. Autumn is definitely here. I am not desperate, I too am ok for transitional pieces but having lost the weight and dropping a couple of dress sizes there are a few gaps in my wardrobe.
I'm not complaining - needing smaller size clothing is a nice "problem" to have.0 -

That reminds me of the old music hall joke...winter drawers on!:rotfl:
When we did our bedroom LL (major refurb that involved ripping out old fitted units) we put the mattress from our bed on the floor in another room. Might that be more comfortable than the air bed?
How much longer have you got your DS helping you?
Sorry to hear you've been under the weather sft. Hopefully you're now on the mend.
When we did our kitchen I took an age to decide what I wanted. We even painted the doors on the old units to give a temporary facelift which was very successful. The layout will probably depend on how happy you are with the existing set up. We went to Wickes and got them to do one of those computerised designs of what could fit in the space and came to the conclusion that we couldn't beat what we already had! Of course, it'll possibly be different if you didn't choose the original layout. I did move the washing machine out of the kitchen and install an extra freezer and move the boiler to the airing cupboard which meant an extra wall cupboard but otherwise the layout is the same. My best piece of (simple and cheap) advice is to buy one of these spice racks:
https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Chrome-4-Tier-Spice-Rack---500mm/p/322140
There are other suppliers. It's absolutely brilliant just to be able to open the door and everything is there easily accessible. I have mine separated into herbs ad spices and then in alphabetical order.
I'm having a quiet day today after a busier than planned weekend. I might read a book.:)0 -
£1000 a year is quite frugal, I must spend a lot more than that.
I went to get my flu jab and to a GP appointment today. I still have that rash which the GP said is ringworm. She said to switch to 100% cotton leggings as that might be the problem as the artificial fabrics aren't breathable. I just ordered some from I Love Leggings. I will wash and donate my old leggings as I just checked and none of them are 100% cotton.
I looked around the charity shops and found my husband a dark grey jacket but nothing for me!0 -
Did a complete top to toe fab yesterday & sorted out some of my facial products so I can get them used up instead of hopping from one to another.
Had to go to the bank today & I just had to have a peek in a couple of CS and found a pair of Calvin Klein black patent peep toe shoes and a new pair of navy Geox court shoes...... unfortunately not in my size lol. But I did find a beautiful butter soft grey leather 3/4 coat that I couldnt resist....for £8!!! I'm beginning to get a collection.......;)Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Well that's it for today, I'm absolutely done for. My poor muscles are screaming in protest. :rotfl: I'm going to prep the veg, have a soak in the bath, then a nice dinner and take it easy. The sofa beckons......
DS2 was here today and will be here again on Wednesday and that will probably be it. He's already back at college and is due to start his new job next week. He's been a huge help and, although I have paid him a bit, he has saved me a small fortune in labour costs. Bless his cotton socks.
I doubt we will get it all completely finished this week but we are aiming to get into a position where I can move back in. I can't actually finish the final bit anyway until the new window has been fitted at the end of October but we will have broken the back of it (hopefully not our own backs too:rotfl:). Even DS2s back is playing up a bit hence finishing early today. I sent him home with orders to have a hot bath and a rest. Tomorrow I'm on granny duty so I'll get a little break although I'm hoping to fit in a bit of painting. I'll see how it goes.
I have decided that once I have had a sort out and got straight again I will have a break before moving onto the dining room. I will take a week off and have another staycation or, if I can find a deal, I might even go away for a few days. But even if I stay home I will ensure I have a good break before starting again.
It's starting to look nice though, I'm very pleased with it and I'm pleased to say thanks to my sons help I managed to come in on budget.. I have been able to splurge on a new 8ft by 8ft thick rug which will make the room warm and cosy and I will buy a new bed throw or quilt to pull all the colours together but everything else, furniture, curtains, light fittings, artworks and accessories will have come from the last house so the bedroom revamp has not been that expensive.
I too am still very undecided about the kitchen, whether to fire ahead or do a temporary fix. I will do some costings after Christmas and make a decision then.I have already removed some wall units and it has really opened up the room letting in more daylight. I think a paint job might well be enough for a couple of years.0
