Some lovely projects Mrs moneypenny! The new to me sewing machine has arrived. It is far fancier than the one I have. I now need to get used to changing the tension and pressure!

On the downside, along with the sewing machine came a huge bag of papercrafting bits one or mum's friends gave her. I will sell most of it, but there was some stuff to nice to pass up on. I have started assembling some of the decoupage sheets already, as it doesn't all fit in the set of drawers I have. Husband is out today, so I will be pressing bits of fabric to have a play with on the new machine and trying to put all of the new stuff onto cards straight away!

Have fun getting to know your new machine. And try to be harsh / strong with the paper bits. My mil keeps bringing me things and I struggle to get rid or use it up sometimes. I need to be harsher.

I’ve been playing with my machine today. Since getting it I haven’t really played much. I’m always so busy at work.

Well today I finished the denim basket / bag. It’s made out of an old recycled pair of jeans. The button came off the first time they were worn - super thin fabric so possibly worn once after with a button sewn on. It’s been lined with an unpicked home made skirt that didn’t quite work. And then had some red leather handles attached. At points the machine was sewing through five layers of cotton one of denim two layers of wadding and two layers of leather or 6 layers of wadding 7 layers of fabric and one of denim. It wasn’t flinching. This machine rocks!!!!!!!

    130 / 400.

My next project is some smaller baskets with the jean legs. Probably won’t be quilted inside.

This is how I’m avoiding painting the damn cabinet. Haha.

Went into Tiger and bought 2 washi tapes, they are really nice and were on £1 for the both but I lacked self-restraint! Sigh.

Enjoy the Washi tape!!!! Have you got a specific use for it - such as a bump or junk journaling?

I need to figure out how to line my smaller denim baskets....

  • I've used up some of my fabric stash making pattern weights. I saw them on the Sewing Bee and looked up to buy some when I thought I could easily make them myself. They were really easy and have proved to be useful for my daughter's A level textiles projects. The only problem is the dog thinks they are her toys and keeps trying to walk off with them!

What did you use as stuffing if you don't mind me asking? I'd like to make done if those as I've started doing more dress making recently.

  • Hi mrs-moneypenny, I used rice for stuffing the pattern weights.

I tend to use deco and washi tape to seal envelopes on etsy sales as decoration, so I hope that seems like some sort of justification ><

I have spent the day sorting out crap. Whoop whoop. Still a mess but still getting there.

I have managed to get my partner to throw away a load of boxes from e cigs. He throws away nothing.

Thanks keepcalmandcraft, I found a pattern and tutorial on pintrest that suggested aquarium gravel but that seems quite an expensive way of doing it so will go with your suggestion of rice.

Did some rock painting which included a rather large memory stone that needed repainted that goes on fil graves at the cemetery, I walked it back up there today.
Stocking is now all sewn and completed which I'm pleased about.
I've got some beads for courage bags that I need to finish putting ribbons in and some baby hats to sew up, will hopefully do those tonight while watching line of duty after I've had a bath.
