How much?

Have today finally decided that I’m dumping Samsung mobile..... have to decline Bixby 15-20 times a day after accidentally touching the bixby button not to mention still being stuck on Android 7 after Samsung’s updater refuses to offer updates.

Anyway, the point of this post is that after looking around at my options I’ve been left quite shocked that prices seem to be hovering around the £1000 mark.

I’m not price sensitive at all and just buy what I need. A couple of years ago a top end phone was around £500 which seems about right factoring in upgrade cycles. A £1000 for a phone just feels like a complete rip-off. Looking online consumers seem to agree with smartphone sales falling 10% last year. Apple had to slash iPhone X production in half which everyone except Apple puts down to its stratospheric price.

Anyway rant over.

Will probably get a Pixel 3 XL

BTW How is Carphonewarehouse still in business??

Try Huawei Mate 20 pro. It’s really good phone with wide angle lens.

Samsung is now apeing Apple in many of its consumer gouging activities. I'd recommend you look at the multitude of other brands. There are many posts on this thread discussing possible alternatives.

    In what way?

your moaning about a feature on a device that you decided to buy (which as far as i know can be remapped so that button does not do that) Plus this bixby issue was well known about on the phone as soon as it was released.

Your moaning about prices of phones. If you know what your price budget is then its easy to just get the phone to that price and not bother about phones that cost £1000 or under your budget.

Your having a random dig at carphone warehouse when there is plenty of other ways to get a phone.

Sometimes I feel customers expect companies to cater for their every need and wimp. The simple fact is a company is there to deliver a product that they want to sell to make a profit. This then requires them to make decisions that will not please everyone but at least caters to the customer base that will ensure they can continue to be in business for years to come. (Companies that don't do that will not be around)

If Customers take more responsibility in doing their research on what it is they actually want from a device and understand what relationship they want with that company then they would feel less angry or bitter when the device they bought does not fit their needs.

I know i come across harsh there but we are actually buying powerful handheld computers now and not some bog standard phone. So we have a lot of decisions to make on what we need out of the device other than making simple phone calls and messages. Simply looking a spec sheets is old hat and its the overall experience we have to think about when deciding to even part with £500 never mind £1000.

Or just disable the bixby button, switch off the bixby voice control and delete the bixby home page. Like most people do.

Samsung also sell cheaper phones. Does not have to be the top of the range one.

Does not stop the phone company trying to push the most expensive one though. I don't need an S9 to get wireless charging and fingerprint sensor.

  • The S8 is down to £449 now. Half the price of the iPhone 10s and just as good spec wise.
