Went out with dd yesterday and spent £23 on crisps, bread, milk and some other bits we don't need. Just the sort of shop I'm trying to avoid :( On a positive note, I've sat down and explained to the kids and dh that I am now on a strict budget and explained the reasons, so hopefully they will all stop demanding things they don't need. I'll need to pop out again tomorrow to pick up more bread and milk but will do this alone! Hope everyone is having a good weekend x

Had my first spends of the year which included paper goods (tissues, toilet rolls, kitchen paper) for my stores and £47.15 for the normal fridge-full of veg, milk, yogurt, eggs, cheese and fruit. I also treated us, within that total, to some pumpernickel bread and a walnut and date loaf, as we have lots of soup to use up and a pack of 4 bass fillets for £5 which we will have for our Sunday dinner (and possibly freeze 2 of these if our DS does not want to eat with us).

  • Hi everyone
well there seems to be healthy portions of self discipline being served with regard GC.
I spent £23 yesterday. Some fresh bits and bobs and a few mixed odds and ends.
Taking roll of beef out to defrost and will cook in slow cooker for upcoming dinner and left overs will do for packed lunches.
Planning to shred leeks today and bag up and freeze ready for soup making. Also will mash up over ripe bananas and either make some banana loafs or bag and freeze them for baking later.
Suffolk lass: I smiled while reading your post. You said you bought walnut and date loaf and I bought walnut and dates yesterday in Poundl+nd to make some today.
Haven't done so yet but plan to get busy late afternoon. Will carry some for packed lunches and share some with friends as I have not very much room left in my freezer to store them.

I spent £26.45 this week. That includes £14.45 for a Thai takeaway for DS3 and me on Friday. He has now gone back to uni, so I am trying to live out of the freezer and cupboards for as long as possible.

I wanted the quick bread option as we have loads to do today and the Morries cob one is rather good, if nearly the same price as your packs of dates and walnuts that will go much farther. I have just go the decs packed away. House seems bare and dark by comparison :(

  • Hi all x
Went for the messages today armed with my list. Spent £5.65 in f@rmf00ds and £42.91 in Mr M. That's more than enough to get us through the week. Quite pleased with myself as I stuck to my list, never even went in to half the aisles as I didn't need anything so just didn't go there :money::T

£20 spent at the market this morning, topping up fruit, veg, cheese & eggs. We don't normally need to buy eggs but the "girls" are having a bit of a rest this winter; they're all quite elderly now as chickens go, so that's not begrudged as they've served us well. One or two eggs a day just don't cut it in a household with two competitive bakers on the go! A handful of day-old chicks will be acquired in spring & raised by one or two of the bantams - that's their job.

Ooops, I need to add what OH spent on a big chicken & a loaf of bread yesterday too... we didn't know whether we'd have DS3 & his partner to lunch today, but in the end we didn't as he has a cold so has stayed away to keep me safe. The bird will do 3 main meals and a small vat of soup, which is keeping me together right now!

Need to raid the freezer & see what else I can cobble together this week so we can have a change from chicken at some point! But shouldn't need to buy anything much until next Friday, with a bit of luck.

Good Luck for the GC 2019 everybody.
