I only heard the 6 item ruling mentioned by staff on 70% day this year when another customer complained that those hoarding the stock were buying to sell. Then the staff member went and told them they could only have 6 of each item.

Come 90% day it's all a bit pointless really I just don't understand why they would, must be just individual staff misunderstanding the so called rule, surely?!

When I've seen people buying masses of items there's usually been a few of them that's come working together anyway so they can just take 6 each to the till if push comes to shove. Quite difficult to control in reality. I've noticed the 6 item rule online on he odd deal more than in stores. I think it must be very much left up to individual stores to decide.

If only it was so easy. It is like when Boots used to do swimwear. That was also given away or destroyed at the end of the season. Again a lot got destroyed due to lack of charity takers.
Can't understand why charity shops would refuse certain things, I guess they may worry about hygiene with swimwear but if it's tagged then I can't see the issue. Even so I've seen used swimwear in some charity shops so hygiene can't be so much of an issue for them.

Even with the Zoella desk calendars and K&K keyrings & other stuff they couldn't shift, they could use them as raffle prizes and make quite a bit from it if they did it as 'prize every time' for example.

Also, these days a lot of charity shops sell online and on Ebay so it baffles me that they would refuse them....

Even if the people were buying to sell - that's no different to what any retailer does. Boots bought them from a supplier to make a profit. If people buy from Boots to sell and make a profit what's the difference? Good luck to them is what I say - even at 70% off the gift sets are priced at what they are worth so not much (if any) profit to be made on them. There are still some Boots No7 Advent Calendars from 2017 listed on ebay for sale :rotfl:

I think the issue people have is that sweeping all the stock by one person or hoarding is not really in the spririt of fairness. Ok, buy 6 to sell if that's what people want to do with them, but leave some for others who may be buying presents because that's the only way they can afford them, or they are buying for charity. Isn't one of the first social lessons children are taught is how to share?

Tbh, don't know why they would swipe such gift sets as a Lynx body spray duo or the Dove body wash duo, I have heard people say its to break down for their shop!!
But £6 before Christmas (alright 3for2, but that's another debate which I'm sure we've already covered!) but on 70% day that's still £1.80, they were only £2.49 in Superdrug before Christmas! Same with Wilko, much cheaper, so come their 50% sale there's very little between their 50% off and Boots' 70% off sale.

I agree it's not fair to be swiping whole shelves. It doesn't happen where I live as the stores are strict with the 6 rule. My main issue is that at 4pm on the last day of the 90% off sale the store didn't want the money in the till and the shelf cleared. Plenty of time had passed for other people to buy if they wanted to - nobody did that's why the shelf was still full. Maybe the people swiping shelves in other stores are running a business themselves and trying to make ends meet by selling stuff online or on social media.

I would suggest you let those places know and suggest they get in touch with the local Boots, and vice versa.

I really find it hard to believe that boots are not clever enough to work it out for themselves to donate.

Its plus points all round as companies love to show the bit they do for the local community. Just look at all the token schemes that go on in supermarkets. The amount it costs is negligible. Boots have already written off the stock. So its not costing any more to donate to charity.

My local boots sends all it stuff back before the 70% sale starts.

Mind you the stuff that boots destroy is the tip of the iceberg of waste within companies.

    This is so true.

They could donate to food banks, hospitals, children's homes, shoebox appeals and so on... I know a lot of what's left hasn't been to the majority of people's taste but as extra little presents for those less fortunate it can bring a smile to their face and make a difference whilst scoring themselves some brownie points too.

Maybe Boot's PR department read this thread and will consider better options in the future rather than it being more stuff ending up in landfill!!

There's a few gifts in the clearance section online now at 60% off.
Zoella candles and diffuser set that they've had in the clearance section yonks, yankee and Ted baker gifts, sanctuary already out of stock.
Some of the stuff such as the Beauty Bakerie was in 90% Sale in store though to be fair...
