Boots Sale

As another poster mentions the 50%/70% isn't what it seems as they were on the deal before Christmas. However, I stopped buying in the 3for2 years ago as the reality is the below was typical for me & probably an awful lot of other people...
I found there would be maybe one thing I wanted at say £18 and another thing at say £6.
...So, to get my moneys worth, (quite the opposite in reality!), I'd end up buying 3 things in the 3for2 at say £14-£18, and another 3 things at £5/£6.
Then I'd end up getting one or two more bits of everyday items to make it up to a £50 spend to get the £10 of bonus advantage card points too.
So I'd have spent £50odd quid for only a couple of presents that I actually needed. The rest were just to make up the basket size and not necessarily what I had in mind.
The above is typical of a lot of shoppers and probably why the Christmas 3for2 has worked so well for Boots year on year. Boots I think were the first retailer to do it on gifts leading others at the time to follow suit.
I don't get sucked into it at M&S either, it starts off as 3for2 but then a fortnight before Christmas it's reduced to 50%for a single item. So, why would I buy three things when I can wait and get the one thing I actually needed at the reduced price.
Maybe something Boots need to consider in future years too perhaps? People are becoming more aware of deals and there's more choice than ever available to people nowadays making stiff competition for retailers. I'd rather play the waiting game now and If they're sold out come 70% day that's just the chance you take, I've usually found I've managed to get what I wanted though. I think the reason the 70% day has been so massive for Boots over the years is that people have started to wise up to the so called 3for2 deal in recent years and realise its not really a deal at all.0 -
I'll be going (shocker!) but I don't think I'm going to bother doing a reccy beforehand again, it's a waste of petrol/parking and reduces what I actually 'save'.
A little fun fact: https://www.boots.com/sale/lucy-mecklenburgh-in-the-zone-10234324 This was in last years 90% off sale and has reappeared in this years 50% off0 -

I used to do the same as you. See a couple of gifts I want then see what else is within that price range and buy 3 at that (or £1-2 out) then another 3 at the next price break. Throw in a few other bits and £50 soon hit during the points event. This year I didn’t buy anything from the 342 gift range simply because I took a long hard look at it and realised I could get similar items online fir a better price and not need to buy 3 of them. I did however do the points event due to my pregnancy and buying things for myself and baby. Had I not been pregnant my spend in boots wouldn’t have increased at all during the festive months.:money::rotfl::T0 -

I'm another who has previously done this! Not any more though.0 -

Yeah, I think most people have got sucked in at some stage.
Boots 3for2 is all probably a third more than other retailers charge so it's all factored into the deal. Lynx set for example, £6 in Boots, but only £4 in Superdrug or Wilko.
I personally just wish they'd sell the stuff at a third less minus the deal!
Another reason the 3for2 has probably worked so well for them over the years was because such as Sanctuary and Ted Baker sets couldn't really be got anywhere else. Well now Sanctuary is in Superdrug and sometimes Tkmaxx too and there's so much choice everywhere that some of these once most sought after sets have turned into a boring gift for some.0 -
I did do a reccy today for a nosey to see what they had worth going for. Much less than previous years, though I suspect they've probably got a load still in the back to bring out on 70% day.
The S&G Bubble Tins they took off sale a couple of weeks ago haven't reappeared and all the Sanctuary barr the reed diffuser set had been removed too. So I assume they'll either be brought out for the sale day or they'll be broken down to sell individually or sent back to the warehouse to sell online at 50% off in July :rotfl:0 -

Totally agree, I actually picked up a Sanctuary set @70% off a couple of weeks ago in Superdrug.0
