Just sign up with any old email does the trick. Some of my client's as I'm a carer mentioned it to me about a year ago I think and they were worried about signing to something. I gave them my login, simples.

Enjoy your xmas and happy new year to you.

I'm signed as fred@smith.com, if there really is that address he will get loads of spam as I use it for all the free wi-fi log ins ;)
• This isn't the BBC's fault. The law was changed so that you now need a TV licence to watch iPlayer, and the BBC now have to make all users register so that they know who is watching.

• In effect, the BBC is forcing this pensioner to start using computers and email,

I agree with the BBC, all pensioners should be forced to start using computers and email.

Well done BBC, I'm right behind you on this one

Nonesense, if that is the case then why do I have to resort to VPN to watch my licensed BBC or and ITV/CH4/CH5 etc when not at home. It’s net neutered not neutrality

Didn't the BBC lobby hard to force people to need a license to watch their catch up service, so really it is their fault. . .

Because you're in a foreign country. If you are in the UK with an IP address from the UK pool then you don't need to use a VPN. You have to use a VPN with the UK selected as a geo-location when abroad because content licence agreements the BBC and other UK broadcasters have with content creators only allows them to broadcast to people in the UK.

The same would apply when wanting to watch content broadcast on US networks by US providers from outside of the US.

Without the internet there is no iplayer.

Surely they check the internet email for any messages from their supplier? They could get problems if they ignore it.

It is reasonable to expect someone with the internet to be able to use it.

Unless there is some magic iplayer that does not use the internet. I also have no idea what you mean by BT provided service. I assume some sort of freeview box with net addons...
However the Roku and Nowtv remotes with about 6 buttons and maybe a volume control on the side really are simple to use for the computer-illiterate. Made recently more complicated mind, by an iPlayer app that won't stay logged in and insists I select the one and only account on the app every time I open iPlayer. (Albeit no password needed). There's a guest account login next to that, I wonder what you do if the licence payer sits and watches with a guest...

Anyway the iPlayer app has recently taken a big step backward for people with learning difficulties or the very elderly.

Missing the point, I am watching on my device owned and bought in the UK registered with them in the UK , so what are the BBC et al saying I can't go abroad for holidays, it's the same with the national-lottery, and other sites? Content is king, which I have paid for, why should I have to fork out for the ambassadors in whatever territory I choose to visit, I don't want to watch stuff illegally using VPN's {:rotfl:) just want to watch I have paid for. Using another analogy I record UK programs which I am allowed to do for my own use, but I can't watch HD programs recorded on my lounge TV on a usb stick in the kitchen, because of they are supposed to be encrypted so that I can't ship them off to youtube etc. The whole thing is a mess imho(or imco)

• Content is king, which I have paid for,
What content on what device have you paid for in a way that grants you a licence to view it in any territory worldwide?
