Woodford Patient Capital

joins the FTSE 250 at a discount after a rocky ride to say the least - long term remit notwithstanding.

Worth a punt if the trackers now have to buy some? Or could a couple of poor research results drag it back out again?

Poor old Neil has had terrible press over the past 18 months or so but he obviously believes in his strategy. I am keeping my small holding in his trust over the long term so I suppose it's wait and see...

Trackers don't need to buy if they are using optimal sampling rather than full replication.

I remember reading an interview where he was developing a concern that people genuinely believed him to be stupid.

Either way I would need to see a much better reason than an index promotion to buy an investment.

Good point, though he must have enough people buying to get to this valuation thinking his long term results worth it. Personally I did not bother with the Patient fund, and sold out of the Income fund a while ago when it became apparent his 5 year figure would not recover from 4th quartile without a miracle.

Maybe but following a crowd is also not a good reason to invest. When markets are down you need to have confidence in your investment choices not be scratching you head trying to remember why you bought it.

It's been in and out of the FTSE250 a couple of times prior to this promotion. It may be removed again after a short time. It doesn't seem to have had much impact previously.

It seems, despite the name, this fund is for short-term investors to buy and a short while later sell at a loss citing poor performance. I bought a tiny slice at launch and topped up a couple of times during the worst of the dips. I'll judge it in 10-15 years.
  • Had a 10k investment today as it definitely looks cheap now

Brave buying this at the moment just for the discount. The NAV is likely to drop significantly over the next few weeks as the main fund starts selling its holdings in the same shares. I imagine there are already a bunch of short positions on some of the holdings.

How much of the main fund is invested in WPCT?

In the current circumstances that's the sort of question I would ask myself before parting with my cash
