that's great news about DD, and also to a lesser extent about the Fix on your mortgage.  I think things will be more settled then - still  way worse than pre Truss but at mortgage companies will have worked it out, and at even 50% LTV you should be able to get as good a deal as is possible
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine
  • Depressing is the word for the economy at the moment.

At least you've got time to prepare for when your energy/mortgage fixes come to an end and your equity will certainly give you options.

Great news about your DD's apprenticeship, hope she appreciates the opportunity and makes the most of it x
Thanks DITR... I've looked at what our mortgage and utilities would be on new rates and it adds circa £700 a month on! Ick  :o

DD has had a lucky break and got another apprenticeship and has already started.
One of my friends works at a senior level in the sector that she's interested in working in... they had someone drop out at the last minute, so she put in a good word for DD and after a few hoops to jump through she was offered it.  There are strict strings attached with regards to passing future exams etc so she'll have to work hard, hopefully it'll be good for her.  She's only 2 weeks in, but so far so good.
She'll be earning £1700 a month after deductions, we've suggested she saves £1k of it.

Well done to your daughter. I hope she embraces the chance with both hands and realises that she has been very lucky.
So lucky!  So far, so good... :)

  • Great news for you daughter. My son will be looking for an apprenticeship, but no idea what he even wants to do.......

I am so glad we fixed our mortgage for 5yrs in July, it kicks in, in November. Hubby only wanted to fix for two years, I insisted on 5, glad I did now!
    Wow, that was good timing!
I'll be firmly steering all mine to apprenticeships unless their chosen career path necessitates a degree... DS1 is 16 and wants to do something techy, so many options available

  • It's taken me a while but I've finally caught up with your diary! Phew! What a rollercoaster your DD has been on. I'm glad to hear that she's got a new apprenticeship. These degree apprenticeships are fabulous - I wish they'd been around when I was that age, maybe I wouldn't have gone to uni and done a degree I hated.

Hope the new job is going well
You did well to catch up, it's quite a convulted diary as my brain is always confused :D Agreed... I wish they'd been around too, I'm sure when I was at school, it was 'go to uni or get a rubbish job', no in betweens.  Or maybe that's just how my 17 year old brain remembered it!

Thanks Mark.... hopefully, current mortgage rates are very unappealing, it's mad!

  • Nearly one month in and DD is liking the job, enjoying the training and very much enjoying getting a salary :)
These companies treat their staff so well... flexible hours, sufficient time to complete training, perks, paid team socials, expenses paid for, good salaries, proper breaks/lunch hours. It's like a different world.  Fair play to her :)

  • Good that something turned up for your DD and that she is enjoying it.  Hopefully she is learning the value of hard work now.

This is brilliant - and hopefully it will also be a good "real world" scenario for her to learn that treating people well comes with benefits!
